  • No degree required — skills and output matter more than credentials

  • Production cost modeling and unit economics
  • AI tool fluency for automating finance workflows

Soft skills

  • Hands-on executor — willing to do the modeling themselves without a team

Miscellaneous

  • Based in or willing to relocate to Salt Lake City (preferred) or San Mateo; on-site 5 days/week

Traits to avoid

  • Needs a large team or heavy structure to be productive
  • Only slow-moving large-company experience with no fast-paced environment exposure
  • Pure accounting background with no strategic/FP&A modeling experience

Description

  • We are looking for a Senior Associate, Finance to own the entire finance function at a fast-growing biotech company digitizing the immune system. You'll report directly to the CEO, taking over from a consulting CFO, and be responsible for everything from closing the books to building production cost models that inform pricing and operational decisions across 30+ clinical trials.

What will you be doing?

  • Own monthly close, runway forecasts, and profitability reforecasts — full cutover from the existing consulting CFO
  • Build and maintain a production cost model to understand the true cost of serving each drug developer customer
  • Prepare board packages, investor updates, and fundraising materials
  • Manage accounts payable/receivable and oversee the outsourced bookkeeping firm for accuracy
  • Take on lateral operations functions as the company scales (supply forecasting, compensation modeling, cap table management)

Key Requirements

  • Proven ability to build financial models from scratch (operating models, unit economics, margin analysis)
  • Experience managing a month-end close process
  • Advanced Excel/Google Sheets proficiency
  • Comfortable being hands-on and operating autonomously as the sole finance hire
  • High attention to accuracy — must be detail-oriented with numbers and invoices

Questions to ask:

  • Walk us through your experience building a financial model from scratch — what was the context and how complex was it?
  • Describe your experience managing a month-end close process and working with external accountants or controllers.

Interview

  • Founder Screen (45 minutes)
  • On-Site (1 hour)

Client Description

  • Client is building the Artificial Immunologist. With 500M+ years in the making, the immune system is nature’s original fine-tuned model. We are building a foundational laboratory to digitize this system and reshape multi-billion dollar markets across clinical trials, oncology, autoimmune diagnostics, prenatal medicine, surgical recovery, and aging.
  • By capturing high-resolution immune snapshots, we give drug developers and doctors the decisive signal they need to predict whether a $200M+ clinical trial succeeds, whether a therapy will cause irreversible harm, or whether a patient will respond to a crucial drug. Through deep technical breakthroughs, we have cracked the key challenges that have held back immune profiling from achieving clinical-grade scale.
  • Today we power 30+ trials for Genentech, Recursion, iOnctura, Obsidian, and many more. Revenue has grown explosively because we solve critical problems that have bedeviled drug developers and doctors for years. Our interdisciplinary team brings together pioneers and experts in immunology, advanced diagnostics, and machine learning.
