Job description

The Beirne Carter Center for Immunology Research ( CIC ) was established to expand basic, translational, and clinical research in Immunology. It is a vibrant, collaborative community of Immunologist studying immune mechanisms in a variety of contexts, including cardiovascular diseases . Within the CIC, iPRIME (Immunology, Imaging, and Informatics for Precision ImmunoMedicine ) was established to create an ecosystem to support novel bench to bedside discoveries in CVD .
Position Summary
A position is available at the Beirne Carter Center for Immunology Research ( CIC ), at the University of Virginia in the research group of Dr. Coleen McNamara to work with Drs. Nisha Hosadurg and Todd Villines in the state of the art , high quality analysis of coronary artery computed tomography .
We are seeking to understand the immune system contributions to human coronary artery disease using single cell analytics of human circulating immune cells and genetics . We have quality biospecimen banked on subjects undergoing CCTA to allow for novel investigation .
As a Research Associate you will work closely with Drs. Hosadurg and Villines in CCTA image analysis and interpretation and participate in scientific investigation of biospecimen and clinical data correlates of disease severity, characteristics and progression . provide scientific and technical guidance on experimental design, conduct and interpret, and also perform studies.
Responsibilities Responsibilities :
  • Full-time research or scholarship at the University.

  • Preparatory for a full-time academic or research career.

  • Supervised by a senior scholar; and allows the appointee to publish the results of his/her research or scholarship.

  • Strong time management and communication skills

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team

  • Assist with maintenance and upkeep of laboratory, as applicable

  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

Note: Research Associate positions are for candidates who have obtained their MD or PhD and within the past four years.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Doctoral degree

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience in CCTA imaging and analysis

  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience in CCTA imaging and human translational research .

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a MD or PhD, or equivalent degree in a relative scientific field of study

Required knowledge, skills and abilities :
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Proven grant writing skills is also important (e.g., post-doctoral awards and/or submitted PI-level grants).

  • Highly motivated to develop new research avenues.

Physical Demands
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
Salary Range
  • Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
