Job description

Job Type
Temporary
Description
Part Time POSITION
A driver is a "temporary" position, an employee who is scheduled to work on a specific need for the company. The employee will not receive any benefits unless specifically authorized in writing. A temporary employee (such as a driver) is not a scheduled employee, but rather called in to work as needed. Temporary employees are obligated to take state mandated breaks the same as other employees while working.
Requirements
ATTENDANCE AND DRIVING AVAILABILITY
If you are on the Driver's Call list, you are expected to be able to go on a run with reasonable notice. Business fluctuates so when drivers are needed, it is an immediate need. If it is deemed that the driver is too difficult to get in contact with, or turns down an excessive amount of runs, they will be put on notice. If the situation does not improve, they will be removed from the driver's list.
Once a driver commits to a run, they are not allowed to switch to a better run. If this occurs, they will be notified and if switching runs continues, they will be removed from the driver's list.
Drivers are expected to report to work well groomed, clean, and dressed comfortably as a representative of Pilson. Drivers may
wear jeans that are clean, wrinkle-free and in excellent repair. If drivers report to work dressed or groomed inappropriately, the driver will be prevented from working until they return to work well-groomed and wearing the proper attire. If drivers are delivering a vehicle to a new customer who is taking delivery, they need to step up their attire to accommodate a professional appearance for the customer.
Drivers are to show up 15 minutes before their run, no sooner. While waiting to leave for the trip, drivers should be aware that the dealership is open and that it is a place of business. Please do not do anything that would impede business. Please do not show up earlier than scheduled, expecting to be paid for the additional time.
When picking up vehicles, drivers should visibly inspect the vehicle before taking possession. Have shipping Dealer/Auction sign off on any damage. Any issues or lights with the vehicle should be reported immediately when the driver arrives back at the dealership. If the run requires the use of a trailer, drivers should only utilize Pilson-owned trailers. If the Pilson tow truck and trailer needs to be utilized, reservations must be made with the Chrysler receptionist. A completed safety checklist must be submitted prior to leaving for the run.
MEALS, REST PERIODS AND OVERNIGHT EXPENSES
Meal expenses will be paid on overnight trips or runs totaling over 500 miles.
Also after 5 hours of driving, drivers are required to take a 20 minute break. Rest must be documented on the trip sheet.
Any driver who is driving beyond 12 Hours, needs to rest for 6 hours before continuing on the trip. If a round trip exceeds this level get approval. If you are tired STOP at any point in time and we will reimburse you. We want to keep our drivers safe. (Document on the trip sheet) When an overnight stay is required, arrangements will be made to stay in a motel. If the motel provides a breakfast, a morning meal will not be reimbursed. If breakfast is not provided, drivers will be reimbursed up to $8.00 for a morning meal. Individuals will not be reimbursed for any amount over $8.00.
Any overnight stay will be reimbursed for two drivers per room, no single occupancy. If drivers prefer to stay in a single room, it will be at their own expense and will not be reimbursed.
Lunch will be reimbursed at $10.00.
Dinner will be reimbursed at $15.00.
Receipts must be turned in to be reimbursed for meals. Drivers will be reimbursed for the amount of the receipt up to the meal
allowance total.
OPERATION OF VEHICLES
All employees authorized to drive Company-owned or leased vehicles or personal vehicles in conducting Company business must possess a current, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Any change in license status or driving record must be reported to management immediately.
A valid driver's license must be in your possession while operating a vehicle off or on Firm property. It is the responsibility of every employee to drive safely and obey all traffic, vehicle safety, and parking laws or regulations. Drivers must demonstrate safe driving habits at all times.
Company owned or leased vehicles may be used only as authorized by management.
Portable Communication Device/Cell Phones Use While Driving
All employees authorized to drive Company-owned or leased vehicles or personal vehicles in conducting Company business must possess a current, valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Any change in license status or driving record must be reported to management immediately.
A valid driver's license must be in your possession while operating a vehicle off or on Firm property. It is the responsibility of every employee to drive safely and obey all traffic, vehicle safety, and parking laws or regulations. Drivers must demonstrate safe driving habits at all times.
Company owned or leased vehicles may be used only as authorized by management. Portable Communication Device Use While Driving
Employees who drive on Company business must abide by all state or local laws prohibiting or limiting portable communication device (PCD) use, including cell phones or personal digital assistants, while driving. Further, even if use is permitted, employees may choose to refrain from using any PCD while driving. "Use" includes, but is not limited to, talking or listening to another person or sending an electronic or text message via the PCD.
Regardless of the circumstances, including slow or stopped traffic, if any use is permitted while driving, employees should proceed to a safe location off the road and safely stop the vehicle before placing or accepting a call. If acceptance of a call is absolutely necessary while the employee is driving, and permitted by law, the employee must use a hands-free option and advise the caller that he/she is unable to speak at that time and will return the call shortly. Under no circumstances should employees feel that they need to place themselves at risk to fulfill business needs.
Since this policy does not require any employee to use a PCD while driving, employees who are charged with traffic violations resulting from the use of their PCDs while driving will be solely responsible for all liabilities that result from such actions.
Texting and e-mailing while driving is prohibited in all circumstances. Violation of this policy could result in immediate discharge.
TRAFFIC LAWS AND TOLLS
Drivers are to obey all traffic laws at all times. Any tickets issued to the driver are the responsibility of the driver. There will be a written warning for any traffic violation issued to the driver while driving a Pilson owned vehicle. If a second offense occurs, the driver is responsible for fines and will no longer drive for Pilson. This also includes paying tolls when they occur on trips.
When setting out for your trip please be sure you have mapped the trip and are aware of any and all tolls that you will be passing through. Have your Ipass for each car with you or enough cash to get through all tolls. This cash will be refunded to you. If for any reason you are unable to pay a toll, write down the mile marker and toll gate involved as well as the time. You will then need to go to ipass online and pay that toll THAT DAY .
Tolls are $1.50, but when not taken care of at that time we are billed at $21.50 per toll for late processing. This is going to be an expense due the driver from now forward because it is definitely avoidable.
When two ipass devices are needed, please be sure to wrap the second ipass in aluminum foil so that it doesn't ring up when passing through the ipass booth. Tin foil will be available at all dealerships.
Plates are now being logged by driver. Any missed tolls are the responsibility of the driver. Fines incurred will result in disciplinary action up to, and including termination.
There is to be no smoking in any vehicle owned by Pilson or driven by Pilson's driving staff.
END OF TRIP INFORMATION
All trash is to be removed from vehicle at time of delivery including but not limited to: Coffee Cups, Candy Bar Wrappers, Fast Food Bags, Soda Cans/Bottles, etc.
All vehicles are to be parked on the Concrete Pad behind Chrysler backed in against fence on the South Side. All keys are to be
promptly turned in to the appropriate individual. Vehicles for Dealer Trade New should go to sending Manager. Used vehicle keys purchased at Auction should be given to Used Vehicle Inventory Manager.
