What is an imaging service engineer?

An Imaging Service Engineer is a specialized technician responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing medical imaging equipment such as MRI machines, CT scanners, X-ray systems, and ultrasound devices. They ensure that this critical equipment operates safely and efficiently, often working in hospitals, clinics, or for equipment manufacturers. Their role may involve troubleshooting complex issues, performing routine maintenance, calibrating machines, and training healthcare staff on proper equipment use. Imaging Service Engineers play a vital part in maintaining the quality and safety of medical imaging services.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an imaging service engineer?

To thrive as an Imaging Service Engineer, you need a strong background in electronics, biomedical engineering, or a related field, often supported by an associate or bachelor's degree. Familiarity with diagnostic imaging equipment (like MRI, CT, or X-ray machines), manufacturer-specific certifications, and experience using service management software are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, customer service orientation, and effective communication help you excel in troubleshooting and working with clinical staff. These skills are crucial to ensure the safe, reliable operation of medical imaging equipment, directly impacting patient care and clinical efficiency.

What are some typical challenges imaging service engineers face when maintaining complex medical imaging equipment?

Imaging Service Engineers often encounter challenges such as troubleshooting highly technical issues in advanced imaging systems, like MRI or CT scanners, under tight time constraints to minimize equipment downtime. They must also stay up-to-date with rapidly evolving technology and adhere to strict safety and compliance standards. Collaboration with clinical staff and vendors is essential for accurate problem diagnosis and timely repairs. Adaptability and strong communication skills are key to successfully handling these multifaceted tasks.

Job description

Mobile MRI Technologist

We're Scan.com, the digital health scale-up making diagnostics accessible, fast, and transparent. Our technology speeds up diagnoses for timely treatments, improving healthcare outcomes for hundreds of patients each day.

We're doing diagnostics differently, with solutions tailored to both patients and providers, all backed by our technology and world-class customer operations team. Our B2C marketplace simplifies booking a scan, making it as straightforward for patients as booking a hotel. Our B2B platforms provide live scheduling at the point of care and harness AI to ease workflows for physicians, attorneys, and providers.

We're looking for a Mobile MRI Technologist at an exciting time - we've successfully launched multiple platforms and products, raised over $70m in VC funding, reached profitability, and have a growth trajectory of over 100% YoY.

What You Will Be Getting Involved In

As a Mobile MRI Technologist, you are the clinical heartbeat of our physical operations. Reporting to the Director of Imaging Performance, you will lead the day-to-day clinical functions of our high-end mobile units. Unlike traditional "traveling" roles, our units are permanently parked, providing a stable home base for you to deliver exceptional care. You will be responsible for the end-to-end patient experience, from safety screening to high-fidelity imaging, while ensuring our facilities meet the gold standard of ACR compliance.

As a scale-up business, you can expect your role to develop over time. Here are some of the types of things you could be getting involved in:

  • Clinical Precision: Executing high-quality MRI scans with a focus on diagnostic excellence and patient comfort.
  • Patient Care: Provide compassionate, patient-centered care by explaining MRI procedures, addressing concerns, and ensuring patient comfort and safety throughout imaging exams.
  • System Management: Taking full "ownership" of our Siemens Espree systems, ensuring the system performs at peak levels.
  • Quality Assurance: Managing documentation of daily QC/QA procedures required for safety and accreditation.
  • Patient Advocacy: Leading patient screening and safety protocols to ensure a seamless, anxiety-free experience for every visitor.
  • Technical Troubleshooting: Acting as the first line of defense for the unit by identifying equipment issues and collaborating with Field Service Engineers.
  • Workflow Optimization: Utilizing Acuity Scheduling and Google Workspace to manage patient flow and maintain digital records.
The Top 5 Things We Want You To Achieve In Your First Year Are
  1. Clinical Autonomy: Establish yourself as the trusted lead for your site, managing full-day scan schedules with zero-to-minimal oversight.
  2. ACR Gold Standard: Successfully lead or maintain the ACR certification process for your mobile unit, ensuring 100% compliance with safety standards.
  3. Operational Fluidity: Master Acuity and Google Workspace to ensure all patient documentation is 100% accurate and submitted in real time.
  4. Zero Downtime Mentality: Develop a proactive maintenance relationship with Field Service Engineers, identifying and flagging potential system issues before they impact the patient schedule.
  5. Patient Satisfaction: Maintain a high patient NPS (Net Promoter Score) by delivering a "concierge-style" imaging experience that aligns with the Scan.com mission.
What You Might Bring To The Table

These might be some of the ways you are currently adding value:

  • Accreditation: You hold a current ARRT (MR) credential.
  • Technical Expertise: You have extensive experience specifically navigating and scanning on Siemens Espree MRI systems.
  • Compliance Knowledge: You have a proven track record of obtaining or maintaining ACR certification for MRI facilities.
  • Safety First: You have a deep understanding of MRI safety protocols and rigorous screening procedures.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: You are comfortable troubleshooting technical issues and communicating effectively with engineers and stakeholders.
  • Digital Literacy: You are proficient with Google Workspace (Docs/Sheets) and are a quick study when it comes to scheduling software like Acuity.
  • Location Specifics: You are comfortable working in Humboldt Park. Note: For Chicago, a dedicated parking spot is provided one block from the site.
How We Will Interview You

We keep our interview process short and sweet, and we're a nimble team that can progress at pace. Here are the stages you can expect, but we might switch up the order of each step depending on team availability:

  1. Introductory call/interview with our Senior Talent Partner. The call will be by telephone and will last about 30 minutes.
  2. If there is an initial fit for all, we will invite you to a 45-minute video call with the hiring manager. This is a more structured interview that will deep-dive into the role and technical needs.
  3. All of our roles will have a small assessment stage. This might be in person, a take-home assessment, or further video calls. Length varies, but we're mindful of your time and try to keep it as simple as possible.
  4. Meet the founders and/or other team members. Again, the length varies depending on how many people are involved and whether in person or via video call.
  5. Offer!
Benefits

We go beyond the basics with our benefits package. Here's what you can expect from us:

  • Salary range of $95,000 - $120,000
  • 401k
  • Healthcare, Vision, and Dental
  • All the equipment needed for you to do your role effectively
  • Personal Development budgets
  • 18 days PTO plus public holidays
  • 10 paid sick days
  • Inclusive policies designed by our team, for our team
