AGENCY DESCRIPTION: Indiana Legal Services, Inc. (ILS) is a statewide, not-for profit organization that provides free legal services to eligible clients in civil cases through 8 branch offices. ILS has approximately 85 funding sources, including the Legal Services Corporation, Indiana Civil Legal Aid Fund, United Ways, and Area Agencies on Aging.

LOCATION: This position is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. It requires mostly in-office work, but some work may be completed remotely.
JOB SUMMARY: The Central Indiana MLP Project Director will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation of the medical-legal partnerships teams operating from the ILS Indianapolis Regional Office and will staff one of the MLP projects. With the MLP Directing Attorneys, the Central Indiana MLP Project Director oversees the legal work, outreach, and project implementation of the Central Indiana MLPs. There are currently 10 area MLPs and additional partnerships are planned over the next few years. The position is FLSA-exempt and full-time. The MLP Project Director reports directly to the statewide Director of Medical Legal Partnerships.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Supervise the ILS-Indianapolis MLP attorneys and support staff, including conducting case and performance reviews pursuant to ILS policy.
  • Work closely with the Director of MLPs and colleagues to develop and implement new and existing MLP opportunities for ILS.
  • Serve on the hiring panel for MLP staff positions and onboard new MLP staff members.
  • Ensure that each MLP meets its contract deliverables and engages in effective outreach using a range of techniques, including in-person training and other outreach activities.
  • Increase the visibility of the MLPs in the local and national MLP communities by serving on panels, providing training to partners and other organizations, and interacting with the media.
  • Establish and maintain active networking relationships with agencies and organizations with similar missions and/or clientele.
  • Prepare grant applications and reports required to comply with the requirements of the medical-legal partnerships' funding sources.
  • Identify systemic issues affecting MLP clients and work to address those issues.
  • Exhibit a high level of personal energy, organization, and commitment to the position and the ILS mission.
  • Handle a caseload adjusted for management duties.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A demonstrated commitment to the mission of Indiana Legal Services.
  • Dedication and commitment to the mission of the Central Indiana MLP Project.
  • Juris Doctorate degree and license to practice law in Indiana, or able to become licensed soon after acceptance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of legal experience in the State of Indiana post-bar admission at the time of hire preferred, preferably in a medical-legal partnership or an LSC-funded legal services program setting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain excellent relationships with diverse populations.

COMPENSATION: Starting salary is $65,401, with a range up to a maximum of $96,743, depending on experience. ILS offers an excellent fringe benefit package including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, Rx), disability insurance, life insurance, a 401(k) plan, and a flex benefit plan.
