What is an iGaming developer?

iGaming Developers are software professionals who design, build, and maintain online gaming platforms, including casino games, sports betting applications, and other interactive gambling solutions. They work with a variety of technologies to ensure smooth gameplay, secure transactions, and engaging user experiences. iGaming Developers often collaborate with game designers, backend engineers, and compliance teams to create reliable and legally compliant gaming environments. Their work is essential for the operation and growth of online casinos and betting websites.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an iGaming developer?

To thrive as an iGaming Developer, you need strong programming skills (such as JavaScript, C++, or HTML5), a solid understanding of game mechanics, and experience with software development, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with game engines (like Unity or Unreal Engine), version control systems (e.g., Git), and compliance standards in regulated markets is typical. Creativity, attention to detail, and effective teamwork are crucial soft skills for delivering engaging and reliable gaming experiences. These skills are vital to ensure games are both technically robust and appealing to users in a highly competitive, fast-evolving industry.

What are the typical collaboration points between an iGaming developer and other departments within a gaming company?

As an iGaming Developer, you’ll regularly collaborate with teams such as game design, quality assurance, and product management. Developers work closely with designers to implement creative concepts and ensure the gameplay experience matches the intended vision. Coordination with QA is essential to identify and resolve bugs or performance issues before release. Additionally, you may interact with compliance and backend teams to ensure games meet regulatory requirements and integrate smoothly with casino platforms, fostering a dynamic and cross-functional work environment.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner deeply with InfoSec, HRIS, and other business units to ensure identity platforms align with organizational growth and security requirements.
  • Incident Leadership & COEs: Participate in incident response and root cause analysis (COEs); serve as the ultimate escalation point for the most complex platform issues.
  • Roadmapping & Improvement: Contribute to enterprise systems roadmaps and tool selection, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement and operational efficiency.
  • High-Level Documentation: Author comprehensive technical standards, system configurations, and procedural runbooks to support audit, compliance, and team knowledge sharing.
  • Participate in on-call rotation.
Experience and Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in enterprise IT or systems engineering, with at least 2 years of deep, hands-on experience specifically in Okta administration.
  • Protocol Expertise: Strong command of SSO protocols (SAML, OIDC, OAuth) and modern IAM best practices.
  • Enterprise SaaS Management: Proven experience integrating and securing major SaaS platforms in a high-growth, regulated environment.
  • Technical Automation: Proficiency with scripting and automation tools, including Python, PowerShell, Postman, and Okta Workflows.
  • API Integration: Expert ability to work with REST APIs for complex system integration and data orchestration.
  • Agile Proficiency: Extensive experience working in an Agile, sprint-based environment, utilizing Jira for sprint planning and progress tracking.

Nice to Have
  • Certifications: Okta Certified Professional or Administrator (Okta Certified Consultant is a plus).
  • Governance Experience: Familiarity with identity governance tools or privileged access management.
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Experience using tools like Terraform to manage cloud identity or SaaS configurations.
