Job description

The IT Business Analyst is a senior, business-facing role responsible for aligning Magnolia's business objectives with its enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications. This position serves as a critical liaison between Finance, Accounting, Land, Operations, and the IT organization, ensuring that business requirements are effectively translated into scalable, reliable system solutions.
The IT Business Analyst provides strategic guidance across key platforms, including Oracle EBS Financials and the IFS (formerly P2 Energy Services) Upstream Oil and Gas Accounting, Land, and Production software suites. This role focuses on optimizing system capabilities, supporting application stability, driving continuous improvement, and enabling the business to maximize the value of its technology investments.
The position partners closely with business stakeholders, vendors, and IT leadership to manage enhancements, resolve issues, support upgrades, and strengthen overall application performance and usability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Engagement and Leadership
  • Serve as a trusted advisor and primary point of contact between business stakeholders, vendors, and the IT organization.
  • Partner with business teams to understand challenges, process inefficiencies, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead requirements gathering, functional design, and perform impact analysis for application enhancements and changes.
  • Provide guidance on system capabilities, options, and best practices.

Application Support and Issue Resolution
  • Provide support for ERP solutions to ensure stability and efficient daily operations.
  • Collaborate with IT management to prioritize and resolve support tickets in alignment with business needs.
  • Develop and execute test plans, test cases/scripts, and perform functional validation of changes.
  • Identify recurring issues and recommend improvements to enhance system reliability.

Vendor Coordination
  • Partner with vendors to deliver solutions that meet Magnolia's business and operational requirements.
  • Coordinate priority issues and requests with the relevant vendor to ensure timely resolution.
  • Participate in vendor meetings, workshops, and conferences to remain current on product capabilities and industry best practices.

Patching Testing and Release Support
  • Assess and coordinate application patches, upgrades, and enhancements in alignment with Magnolia's roadmap.
  • Coordinate and support user acceptance testing activities and assist in performing functional validation.
  • Ensure enhancements, upgrades, and patches meet business expectations prior to production deployment.
  • Support Magnolia's change management and release governance processes.

Continuous Improvement and Relationship Building
  • Proactively identify opportunities to enhance business processes through improved system utilization and workflow optimization.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with the business stakeholders through consistent engagement.
  • Provide mentorship to business analysts and developers to strengthen internal knowledge and bring better business value to the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ten or more years of experience supporting Oracle EBS Financials and IFS (P2) solutions, required.
  • Deep understanding of business processes within oil and gas upstream operations including accounting, production, and regulatory areas along with familiarity of land and lease management concepts.
  • Working knowledge of software development life cycles, application support processes, and project methodologies.
  • Intimacy with SOX compliance requirements and change management processes.
  • Experience partnering with vendors to deliver application enhancements and changes.
  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose functional and process related issues with the ability to write SQL queries for analysis, troubleshooting, and data validation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship building capabilities.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a dynamic business environment.
