Job description

Diesel School Bus Mechanic
Iowa City, IA
Shift - Monday- Friday 1st Shift
Hours: 9am- 5:30 pm
Pay: $28-$36 per hour
Requirements:
  • Servicing of gasoline and diesel powered buses from basic maintenance and minor repairs to full vehicle service
  • Diagnose mechanical defects and carries out a preventive maintenance program
  • Major and minor overhaul of engines and transmissions
  • Self starter, been around for a while
  • Diagnostics: more diagnostics and troubleshooting. Using Cummins Insite, Wabco, Allison
  • After-treatment issues--engines, knock sensors, HCU units for the brake system
  • Service and maintain brakes, air compressors, fuel systems, ignitions, HVAC systems and Wheel Chair lifts
  • Service and maintain vehicle air conditioning units
  • Inspects and repairs school buses per DOT requirements
  • Keep records of time and materials used

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
  • 2+ years in Bus or medium truck
  • Medium duty bus experience, International Truck/Bus preferred
  • Must have own set of tools
  • Knowledge of the provisions of codes and laws relating to pupil transportation (i.e. IDOT inspections)CDL class B License with air brake endorsement preferred A/C Certification
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion in a timely manner

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance as attendance is an essential function of the position
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs
