What is an ICT Design Engineer?

ICT Design Engineers are professionals who plan, design, and implement information and communication technology (ICT) systems for organizations. Their work involves creating network infrastructure, integrating hardware and software solutions, and ensuring the security and efficiency of data transmission. They often collaborate with other engineers and stakeholders to develop tailored ICT solutions that meet specific business needs. ICT Design Engineers play a crucial role in supporting modern digital operations and connectivity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an ICT Design Engineer?

To thrive as an ICT Design Engineer, you need a solid background in network and systems design, telecommunications, and information technology, often supported by a degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like AutoCAD, Revit, and network simulation software, as well as certifications such as CCNA or RCDD, is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help distinguish top professionals in this role. These skills and qualifications are essential to deliver robust, scalable ICT solutions that meet complex client requirements and industry standards.

What are some common challenges ICT Design Engineers face when working on large-scale infrastructure projects?

ICT Design Engineers often encounter challenges such as coordinating with multiple stakeholders, adapting designs to evolving project requirements, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Balancing the integration of new technologies while maintaining system compatibility can also be complex. Effective communication and collaborative problem-solving with architects, contractors, and clients are critical to overcoming these challenges and delivering robust, future-proof solutions.

  • Minimum 3 years of SAP or SCI experience within the last 8 years
  • Ability to travel up to 10% (CONUS)

Additional desired experience and skills:
  • Experience with Program Protection planning and implementation in weapon system programs
