Job description

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your journey in nursing begins with hands-on patient care under the guidance of licensed nurses. This Student Nurse Intern role offers a unique opportunity to develop clinical skills while supporting patients through various stages of care.
General Summary
Under supervision, you will assist with patient treatment and care, focusing on age-appropriate needs and daily living activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care including hygiene assistance such as bathing, hair care, oral hygiene, and grooming.
  • Perform skin care and take precautions to prevent skin breakdown.
  • Assist with physical activities including repositioning, ambulation, range of motion exercises, and transfers.
  • Support nutritional needs by preparing patients for meals, assisting with feeding, monitoring intake, and adhering to dietary restrictions.
  • Collect specimens, take vital signs, and document intake and output accurately.
  • Perform sit baths, postmortem care, and apply therapeutic devices like TED hose and ice packs.
  • Lead and participate in performance improvement initiatives, fostering teamwork and employee involvement.
  • Carry out technical nursing procedures within credentialing limits, including oxygen therapy management, catheter insertion/removal, IV discontinuation, suctioning, dressing changes, wound care, and patient assessments.
  • Administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections, maintain NG tubes, and educate patients and families alongside primary nurses.
  • Communicate promptly with licensed nurses regarding any changes in patient condition or concerns.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate documentation in medical records and designated forms.

Education
Currently enrolled in a nursing program or completed nursing education but not yet licensed.
Experience
Entry-level position; no prior experience required.
Certification/License
Not applicable.
Mental/Physical Requirements
This role demands considerable mental focus and physical activity, including frequent walking, lifting, turning, and other movements.
Working Conditions
Exposure to infectious diseases, radiation, and potentially hostile situations may occur. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
