Professionals with skills in cybersecurity, cloud platforms, and certifications like CISSP or CISA are particularly sought after in this field.

What types of projects can an intern expect to work on during an IAM (Identity and Access Management) internship?

During an IAM internship, interns typically work on projects such as user access reviews, developing automation scripts for account provisioning, and assisting with the implementation of security policies. You may also help analyze current access controls, participate in compliance audits, and support the integration of new identity tools. These tasks offer hands-on experience with industry-standard IAM platforms and close collaboration with IT security teams, providing valuable exposure to real-world security challenges.

For an internship, earning $30 an hour is considered above average in many industries, especially for roles requiring specialized skills or in high-cost areas. Interns typically earn less, often minimum wage or slightly above, but paid internships at this rate can reflect valuable experience and competitive compensation depending on the field and location.

To thrive as an IAM (Identity and Access Management) Intern, you need a foundational understanding of cybersecurity principles, computer networks, and identity management concepts, often supported by coursework in information technology or computer science. Familiarity with IAM platforms (such as Okta, Azure AD, or SailPoint), basic scripting skills, and knowledge of security protocols are commonly expected. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication help interns excel when collaborating on security initiatives and troubleshooting access issues. These skills are crucial for maintaining secure access controls and supporting organizational security objectives.

An IAM internship is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in Identity and Access Management (IAM). Interns typically assist with tasks such as managing user accounts, implementing security policies, and supporting authentication systems.
