Job description

Mid-to-Large Structures Manager

Hyundai America Technical center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for an Engineering Design Manager/Part Leader who will lead our diverse and growing Engineering Design Structures Team in developing a vision, strategy, and business plan as it relates to meeting internal and external customer objectives related to Structures and Testing.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Develop project work plans and budget in support of the Structures Engineering Design Team (SED) vision. Develop goals and objectives for all direct reports. Assign tasks and projects to support the related team's work plan.
  • Be a subject matter expert in relation to Automotive Body Structures design (Ex. Roof, Side Aperture, Cowl, FEM, Bumper Beam, Fender, etc), development, and testing.
  • Ensure Vehicle Development process is followed from concept to post-production, satisfying all internal & external customer requirements. Conducting competitive benchmarking, detailed engineering cost/weight analysis, performing drawing release, executing engineering orders, meeting safety/regulatory targets, etc.
  • Manage and direct Engineers in daily activities for work projects relating to team activities in support of our three brands: Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis
  • Lead new technology development: Develop technical road maps and strategies with the goal of implementation to the production vehicle
  • Support Plant and life cycle activities: quality improvement, continuous vehicle improvement, cost and mass reductions
  • Review progress to work plan and quality of work. Provide technical direction and guidance. Accurately maintain and update project status reports and review with upper management routinely
  • Support the creation of bi-weekly team reports summarizing the activities of the past week and detailing the planned activities of the upcoming week
  • Create and present technical reports for presentations to Management, affiliates and others
  • Interface and co-work with other teams within VE, HATCI and its affiliates - Project Management, Product Planning, Materials Development, Safety Integration, Regulation & Certification, Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing - provide support as required with testing, development, vehicle clinics, etc.
  • Ensure administrative functions such as timecards, vacation requests, travel requests, etc., are followed on a timely basis
  • Perform additional projects as required/assigned
  • Travel up to 20% of time domestically and internationally
WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE
  • Educational Requirements:
    • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering (minimum) with MBA or Master's Degree Preferred
  • Related Industry Experience Requirements:
    • 8-12 years in automotive vehicle design and development with increasing levels of project and team management
    • 3+ years managing a multi-functional engineering department.
    • Expert in Vehicle Design and Solving Development and Quality Issues (Warranty, IQS, Plant Issues, Field Issues, Root Cause Analysis)
    • Significant experience and expertise in Automotive areas of Structure, Closures, CAE
    • Experience supporting Suppliers and Assembly plants during significant program events.
  • Required Skills and Knowledge:
    • Expert oral and written communication skills
    • Expert in CATIA, CAE or similar systems
    • Expert Project Management skills
    • Flexibility with program and process changes. Hyundai/Kia/Genesis is willing to make late changes to satisfy customer needs.
    • Expert skills in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
    • Proficient time management, organization, and presentation skills
    • Proficient self-management skills
