Job description

Hyperbaric and Safety Technician

Rome Health is seeking a Hyperbaric and Safety Technician (LPN) to join our Wound Care Center. This position plays a key role in providing safe, effective hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy while supporting wound care operations and maintaining a safe clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and monitor hyperbaric chambers and related oxygen systems during HBO treatments.
  • Prepare, educate, and orient patients for hyperbaric therapy, including safe lifting and transfers as needed.
  • Monitor patients throughout treatment and make appropriate adjustments to ensure safety and treatment effectiveness.
  • Accurately document HBO treatments, wound care visits, and patient responses.
  • Maintain hyperbaric equipment, supplies, and treatment areas in accordance with safety standards.
  • Inspect equipment and supplies to ensure they are appropriate for use in the hyperbaric environment.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs, upgrades, and modifications with department leadership and facility personnel.
  • Lead and maintain the department's hyperbaric and safety program, including safety drills and emergency preparedness.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable hyperbaric safety standards, including NFPA 99.
  • Review safety events, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide staff education and in-service training.
  • Assist with insurance verification and authorizations for HBO and other advanced wound care treatments.
  • Assist with wound care intake, discharge, documentation, and case management within LPN scope of practice and under RN direction.
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and other members of the wound care team to support quality patient care.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or delegated.
Required Qualifications
  • Current New York State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license - required.
  • .Completion of an approved HBO Safety Course, either before or after hire.
    • Pre-hire course must have been completed within the past five years.
    • Post-hire training will be provided if needed.
  • Completion of an approved introductory Hyperbaric Medicine course through a recognized organization such as the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, or American College of Hyperbaric Medicine.
    • Post-hire training will be provided if needed.

Preferred: Previous experience in wound care, hyperbaric medicine, or a related clinical setting.
