Job description

Position: Hydrovac Operator w/ CDL Reports To: Hydrovac Manager Summary: The Hydrovac system is a non-destructive method of excavating as an alternative to mechanical equipment or hand-digging. The Hydrovac uses pressurized water and a vacuum system to quickly, safely, precisely and cleanly excavate around utilities and pipelines. Essential Qualifications, Duties, and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned) Must have either a CDL Class A or B with air brakes & tanker endorsements (Hazmat endorsement not required); Clean driving record & a minimum of 1-year CDL driving experience; Previous Hydrovac or trenching experience is preferred; TWIC Card is required; Ability to travel & work out of town/state for extended periods of time; Ability to be on-call 24/7 for emergency response work; Driving and operating Hydrovac units; Completing tasks associated with daylighting excavation, trenching, and shoring; Ninety percent or more of the job's work time is spent operating the on-board hydro-vacuum system outside the truck performing non-destructive excavation around sensitive underground piping and cables.; Other Hydrovac work consists of tank entry, cleaning and vacuuming, mobilization of equipment, attending training sessions, paperwork, truck maintenance, safety meetings, etc.; Rigging equipment in and out; Performing pre and post trip inspections; Completing all required paperwork on a daily basis Work Environment: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet or humid conditions; work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outdoor weather conditions

The employee is frequently exposed to extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of radiation and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands: The employee must regularly lift up to 50 pounds and carry up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Hydrovac Operators must be willing to comply with PCM Health, Safety, and Environmental rules and regulations. They must also comply with all governmental regulations.
