Black & Veatch’s Structural Services Team is seeking an experienced, creative, and highly talented Structural Engineer to support Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures design projects. The candidate will function in the capacity of a senior‑level engineer.

Black & Veatch Operations develops, deploys, and maintains global resources and capabilities that guide execution and process excellence across the organization. • Execute complex structural analysis, perform calculations, and prepare sketches and drawings for the design of Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures, including powerhouses, dams, spillways, penstocks, and other complex structural facilities.
• Perform site inspections of existing Hydropower and Hydraulic Structures projects and develop recommendations for remediation of aging infrastructure.
• Serve in the role of Subject Matter Expert during Comprehensive Assessment of existing hydropower projects under the FERC Part 12d dam safety program including performing dam safety evaluations, risk analysis, and structural stability assessments.
• Collaborate with process and systems engineers in the execution of multi‑disciplinary design projects, requiring communication and careful planning.
• Supervise Structural Engineers and Structural Technicians (both in the US and overseas offices) in preparation of structural drawing packages, calculations, and specifications. Responsible for leading larger production teams and serving as the responsible charge for projects.
• Occasional travel to client sites during project development to collaborate with project stakeholders. Estimated travel is up to 20%.
• Perform project administrative tasks, which may include any/all of the following: preparation of design fee estimates, monitoring progress against budget and schedule, management of project changes, and implementation of Black & Veatch Quality Control requirements.
• Ability to lead a team to execute complex projects with construction values of up to $200M.
• Provide guidance and direction on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes and B&V policies. Assist in developing, maintaining, and updating engineering standards. Provide technical guidance to others regarding projects and disciplines.
• Support continuous improvement efforts. Provide guidance and direction to others. Identify training needs for groups and implement improvement strategies.
• Influence and implement resource management strategy including managing resources for a regional group.

Supervises work of others. Responsible for hiring, discipline, and pay administration of their subordinates.

• Master of Engineering or Master of Science from an ABET accredited Structural Engineering program.
• Familiarity with the latest editions of the International Building Code, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Construction Manual.
• Proficiency with use of structural analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAADPro, ANSYS or SAP 2000.
• Experience with Army Corps of Engineers projects and Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC).
• Proficiency with use of non‑structural software packages such as MS Word, MS Excel, MathCAD, Bluebeam, ProjectWise, AutoCAD, and Revit.

• Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science from an ABET accredited Structural or Civil Engineering program.
• Professional registration in at least one state with the ability to obtain additional licenses.
• Minimum 11 years of related structural design experience including steel structures and reinforced concrete.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

• Holds an active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and supports where necessary.

• Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
