Overview:
Our client, an engineering firm specializing in renewable energy, water, and environmental solutions, is seeking a Senior Hydropower Engineer to support and expand hydropower engineering efforts across the Southeast region. This role combines technical leadership, project management, and client development, with responsibility for delivering complex hydropower projects and supporting multidisciplinary teams across the organization. The successful candidate will bring deep, hands-on experience in the design and analysis of hydropower facilities, including dams, spillways, gates, penstocks, and powerhouse systems, while also leading client relationships, driving project execution, and mentoring staff. This is a full-time, hybrid position open to candidates located in Lexington, SC or Charlotte, NC.
Pay range: $120,000 - $185,000 DOE

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and support hydropower engineering projects across the Southeast and broader U.S. regions.
  • Perform and oversee engineering design and analysis for hydropower facilities, including dams, spillways, gates, penstocks, and powerhouse systems.
  • Manage large, multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate across engineering disciplines including structural, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships, supporting business development and regional growth initiatives.
  • Provide technical leadership and practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Support project execution from planning and design through construction.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering technical growth and team collaboration.
  • Collaborate with internal teams on renewable energy, water resources, and environmental projects.

Requirements:
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in hydropower engineering, including design, project management, and client engagement.
  • Strong experience in the analysis and design of hydropower facilities, including dams, spillways, gates, penstocks, powerhouse structures, and balance of plant systems.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams across structural, hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical disciplines.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards and codes applicable to the candidateโ€™s discipline.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements and permitting processes related to hydropower projects.
  • Experience working with clients and contractors during planning and construction phases.
  • Proven ability to manage large, complex, multidisciplinary projects.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships.
  • Passion for mentoring and developing junior staff.
  • Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States.
  • Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driverโ€™s license.
