Job description

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Hydro Vac / Jetting Truck Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will safely operate hydro excavation and vac/jetting equipment to perform non-destructive digging, pipeline jetting, and related field services for underground utilities while maintaining strict safety standards. This role goes beyond driving — the operator is responsible for the full setup, operation, and breakdown of all onboard systems at the job site.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Operate hydro vac truck, vacuum excavation equipment, and vac/jetting truck safely and efficiently
  • Perform potholing, daylighting, trenching, and utility exposure
  • Operate jetting nozzles, hose reels, and high-pressure water systems for pipeline cleaning and debris removal
  • Manage water and debris tank levels, perform offloading/disposal in accordance with environmental regulations
  • Set up and break down all onboard equipment at the job site, including boom positioning, hose connections, and PTO engagement
  • Coordinate with ground crew to safely guide excavation and jetting operations
  • Transport equipment to and from job sites
  • Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections
  • Maintain equipment in clean and working condition
  • Follow all safety procedures and job-site protocols
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and crew members


Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Hydro vac or vacuum excavation experience preferred
  • Knowledge of underground utility locating and excavation safety
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and background check
  • Ability to safely operate:
    • High-pressure water systems
    • Vacuum boom and debris tank
    • PTO systems
  • Basic equipment maintenance experience (daily inspections, greasing, cleaning tanks, winterization)

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
    • Class A (required)
    • Air brake endorsement (required)
  • Tank/Tanker endorsement (required)
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 (preferred; can be obtained after hire)


Physical Requirements:


  • Able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move as needed to reach, clean, and service machinery.
  • Must be able to visually inspect machines.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
