Job description

Job Title: Principal Power Systems Engineer
Location: San Jose, CA – Onsite
Duration: 6 months Contract-to-hire (Temp-to-perm)
Ideal Target Start Date: ASAP

Job Description:
The client is looking for an expert/SME with electrical modeling experience specific to mini/micro-grids.
The successful candidate will leverage advanced modeling and simulation techniques to support product development, system integration, testing activities, and long-term operational performance.
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain electrical system models used to assess performance, reliability, and operational behavior.
• Perform engineering studies related to power flow, fault conditions, dynamic response, system stability, and equipment coordination.
• Evaluate operating scenarios under normal, abnormal, and contingency conditions.
• Support system architecture development through simulation-based analysis and technical recommendations.
• Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to validate design assumptions and improve system performance.
• Generate technical reports, engineering documentation, and presentation materials supporting design reviews and project milestones.
• Assist with system verification, commissioning support, and troubleshooting efforts when advanced modeling expertise is required.
• Identify technical risks and recommend mitigation strategies based on analytical findings.
Requirements:
• REQUIRED: PHD or master’s in electrical engineering, Power Engineering, or related discipline preferred.
10+ years of experience performing electrical system analysis, simulation, and modeling within utility, industrial, renewable energy, or distributed generation environments.
• Strong understanding of electrical network behavior, system dynamics, and converter-based technologies.
• Experience utilizing industry-standard power system simulation and analysis software. PSCAD & MATLAB experience is REQUIRED
• Knowledge of:  Electrical power conversion systems, Grid-connected and standalone power systems, System controls and automation, Protection and coordination principles, Power quality and reliability concepts, Fault analysis, and mitigation techniques
• Familiarity with industry regulations, interconnection requirements, and applicable engineering standards.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and technical communication skills.
• Proven ability to collaborate across multiple engineering disciplines in a fast-paced product development environment.
