What is a hunting guide?

Hunting guides are professionals who assist clients in planning and conducting hunting trips. They use their expertise in local wildlife, terrain, and hunting regulations to help ensure a safe and successful hunt. Guides often provide knowledge about animal behavior, tracking, and ethical hunting practices. Additionally, they may handle logistics such as obtaining permits, setting up camps, and field dressing game. Hiring a hunting guide can greatly enhance the overall hunting experience, especially for those unfamiliar with the area or specific game species.

What are some common challenges hunting guides face when leading clients on expeditions?

Hunting Guides often encounter challenges such as unpredictable weather, varying client experience levels, and ensuring everyone’s safety in remote locations. Balancing client expectations with legal and ethical hunting practices can also be demanding. Additionally, guides must adapt quickly to changing conditions, track game efficiently, and provide a positive experience, all while maintaining compliance with local regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a hunting guide, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Hunting Guide, you need extensive knowledge of wildlife, hunting regulations, navigation, and outdoor survival skills, often backed by hunting licenses and first aid certifications. Familiarity with GPS devices, mapping software, firearms, and safety equipment is typically required. Exceptional communication, leadership, and problem-solving abilities help guides ensure client safety and satisfaction in unpredictable environments. These skills and qualities are crucial for providing safe, ethical, and successful hunting experiences for clients.

The daily work required of the year-round role is identical to the seasonal position, without the seasonal start and end dates. • A flexible, positive attitude built for fast-paced, high energy environments where change is the constant
  • Curiosity and the confidence to figure things out independently
  • Accountability and the confidence to say β€œI need help!”
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfort with digital tools
  • Familiarity with Gorgias and Shopify are strongly preferred

Where You’ll Work

Our Burlington, VT HQ is unlike any other officeβ€”flagship store, skate parks, and steps from trails and the lake. We also have a Montreal hub with its own great vibe and many French-speaking staff. In-person collaboration is encouraged 3+ days/week; fully-remote roles are available for strong candidates with strong, reliable internet required.

Benefits & Perks:

Burton’s benefits package includes health insurance (medical, dental and vision), life insurance (company paid), flex spending, short- and long-term disability insurance (company paid), great parental benefits, 401k plan with company match, HSA with company contribution, fitness reimbursement and paid-time-off.

Burton’s perks include fun stuff like season pass or reimbursement, ride days, and pro deals. You are also able to earn gear credit through our seasonal incentive program. And with several grass-roots initiatives within the company, you might also choose to become part of our mentoring network or action groups. No matter your personal style, we are a team that works hard together while having as much fun as possible.
