This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

The MK2 Crew Lunar Lander team is seeking aSystems Engineer IIIto specialize in Human Systems Integration (HSI). In this critical role, you will apply rigorous systems engineering principles to ensure the human operator is at the center of the lander's architecture. You will be responsible for defining and managing the HSI requirements, interfaces, and verification strategies that shape the design of crew interfacing systems. Your work will ensure the final vehicle is optimized for human performance, safety, and usability. This role is perfect for a systems engineer who applies deep technical rigor to translate human performance capabilities and limitations into verifiable requirements for a safe and highly operable spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadspacecraft-level human systems integration (HSI)for the MK2 Crew Lunar Lander across the full lifecycle: concept refinement, requirements, design, integration, test, and mission operations.
  • Develop and maintaintechnical requirements, including allocation to subsystems; own traceability and change control.
  • Execute onverification & validation (V&V)for HSI requirements: verification planning, compliance matrices, human-in-the-loop test strategy, data review and/or analysis, author verification reports.
  • Manageinterfaces(mechanical, electrical, fluid, thermal, software, operational) across subsystems and with ground/launch/mission segments; drive ICD development and closure.
  • Drivetrade studiesand architecture decisions (mass/power/thermal/operability /safety/reliability), documenting rationale and risk. Act
  • Support system safety and mission assurance activities includingtask analysis and human error analysis, FMEA/FTA participation, and operational constraints, with a focus on human-system interactions
  • Contribute to development of the Human Systems Integration Plan and ensure compliance and execution within the MK2 organization, including authoring required deliverables for design and certification reviews
  • Supportintegration and testcampaigns: procedure reviews, readiness reviews, test execution support, data review, and requirement closure.
  • Communicate status and technical decisions clearly to program leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering (or related).
  • 5+ yearsof relevant experience in systems engineering for aerospace systems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering fundamentals, including requirements definition, interface management, and verification and validation.
  • Proficiency with human-systems engineering concepts and applications
  • Ability to work effectively across disciplines and communicate clearly (written and verbal).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience oncrewed spacecraftand/or human systems integration of a complex aerospace program (safety-driven design, hazard processes, certification-style rigor).
  • Deep familiarity with NASA-STD-3001 (NASA Space Flight Human-System Standard) and experience applying it to a human spaceflight program
  • Proficiency with a requirements management tool (e.g., Jama or DOORS Next Gen) and collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Experience with human in the loop testing and best practices for human subject data collection and subject population selection
  • Experience with reliability/safety analyses (FMEA, FTA, hazard tracking) and operational concept development.

  • Required for certain Job Profiles: Ability to obtain and maintain Merchant Mariner Credential, which includes pre-employment and random drug testing as well as DOT physical
