Gaining skills in user-centered design, prototyping tools, and programming languages like HTML, CSS, or JavaScript is important, along with experience in designing intuitive interfaces and understanding user behavior. Building a portfolio and staying updated with industry trends can also enhance job prospects.

What does a human machine interface designer do?

A human machine interface (HMI) designer creates user interfaces that allow operators to interact effectively with machines and systems. They focus on designing intuitive layouts, controls, and visualizations, often using design software and understanding user experience principles to improve safety and efficiency in industrial or technological environments.

This position is ideal for a creative, intuitive, and highly motivated designer who enjoys taking ownership and transforming complex business and user requirements into simple, intuitive, and engaging digital experiences.
The successful candidate will lead the design process from initial concepts, workflows, and wireframes through fully developed product experiences. The ideal candidate will bring a strong user-centered design perspective, demonstrate excellent visual and interaction design skills, and be comfortable collaborating closely with developers, leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle.
Location: Bronx or Monsey, NY
Job Type: Full-Time
Work Setup: Hybrid
Compensation: $100,000 - $150,000 per year
Key Responsibilities
  • Design intuitive and user-friendly workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and interfaces for the software platform.
  • Lead the end-to-end UX/UI design process from initial concepts and user research through final product implementation.
  • Translate business requirements, user needs, and complex workflows into simple, effective, and intuitive product experiences.
  • Establish and maintain the overall design direction, user experience standards, and visual design principles for the platform.
  • Develop design concepts that balance usability, functionality, accessibility, and modern UI best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with developers, leadership, product stakeholders, and other cross-functional team members throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Work with development teams to ensure designs are implemented accurately and consistently.
  • Identify usability challenges, friction points, and opportunities for improvement and proactively develop effective design solutions.
  • Establish and maintain consistency across the platform's user experience, interaction patterns, and visual elements.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve the user experience based on stakeholder feedback, product requirements, and evolving user needs.
  • Take ownership of assigned design initiatives and drive projects forward with minimal oversight.
  • Contribute to product strategy and platform decisions by providing a strong user-centered design perspective.
  • Communicate design concepts, decisions, and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Help establish scalable design practices, standards, and processes that support the continued growth of the platform.
    Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of professional UX/UI design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Design, User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related field required.
  • Proven experience designing software products, platforms, or applications from the ground up.
  • Strong understanding of user experience principles, interaction design, information architecture, and modern UI design best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to create intuitive user workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and production-ready interface designs.
  • Strong ability to understand user behavior and anticipate how users will naturally interact with a product.
  • Experience translating complex business requirements and user needs into clear, intuitive, and effective digital experiences.
  • Strong visual design skills with a focus on consistency, usability, and user-centered product development.
  • Healthcare industry experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to take ownership of projects and drive design initiatives from concept through completion.
  • Highly self-motivated, creative, driven, and passionate about creating exceptional digital products.
  • Strong sense of accountability and attention to detail.
  • Natural leadership qualities with the ability to take initiative, influence product decisions, and guide the design process.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently while partnering effectively with developers, leadership, and broader cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a hybrid environment.
  • U.S. Citizen or Green Card Holder required
