Job description

Job Overview
The Receiving/Inspector is responsible for the accurate and timely receipt of all direct and indirect materials. This role ensures incoming materials are properly inspected, measured, counted, verified, and documented. The position requires a high level of accountability, attention to detail, and strong communication with cross-functional teams including Purchasing, Accounting, Materials, Quality, and Production.
A Day In The Life
Every day at Hubbell is different and you'll contribute in many ways. On any given day, you'll make a difference by:
  • Receive and process all incoming shipments of direct and indirect materials
  • Perform physical inspection and basic measurement of materials using tools such as calipers, measuring tapes, or similar devices as required
  • Accurately count and verify quantities against packing slips and purchase orders
  • Review and validate all receiving documentation (packing slips, POs, certifications, etc.
  • Record receipts and maintain accurate receiving logs in the system
  • Communicate timely completion of receiving to Purchasing and relevant stakeholders
  • Identify and report discrepancies (shortages, damages, incorrect materials) to Purchasing, Quality, and Accounting
  • Coordinate with Quality for inspection and nonconforming material handling
  • Ensure proper labeling, identification, and staging of materials
  • Transfer materials to appropriate locations for storage or production use
  • Maintain organization of the receiving area in line with safety and 5S standards
  • Provide periodic updates on material receipt status to internal teams
  • Support inventory accuracy through cycle counts and audits

What will help you thrive in this role?
  • Strong attention to detail with high level of accuracy in counting and verification
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, unit conversions, counting accuracy)
  • Ability to read and interpret purchase orders, packing slips, and technical documentation
  • Working knowledge of measurement tools such as calipers and tape measures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365
  • Basic experience with ERP systems (JDE preferred)
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across departments
  • Ability to work independently with a strong sense of accountability
  • Forklift operation experience or certification
  • Previous warehouse or manufacturing receiving experience
  • Ability to lift and move materials per facility guidelines
  • Ability to stand, walk, and work in a warehouse/manufacturing environment
  • Accountability and ownership of material accuracy
