Specialty Pharmacy Technician

Position Highlights:

Nebraska Medicine is now taking applications for a talented individual to join us as a Specialty Pharmacy Technician in our Specialty Pharmacy Program. The Specialty Pharmacy Program operates out of two locations; the Durham Outpatient Center pharmacy and HUB pharmacy.The primary work location for this position will be at Hub Pharmacy located off 114th and Dodge, but will rotate to the Durham Outpatient Center pharmacy, located on Main Campus.

Our Specialty Pharmacy Program is designed to streamline patient care for a group of complex medication therapies that require very specific monitoring and follow up. The Nebraska Medicine specialty pharmacy program is a partnership with Nebraska Medicine Specialty Providers and the outpatient specialty pharmacy team. The collaborative effort is designed to eliminate barriers to specialty medication access and provide optimal pharmacy services focused on quality and safety. The Specialty Pharmacy at Nebraska Medicine was the first URAC accredited specialty pharmacy in the state of Nebraska and one of the first academic medical centers nationally.

Candidates with at least one year of experience and already certified will be given priority consideration.

Shift:

  • Full time and Benefit Eligible position -- 1.0 FTE (80 hours in a pay period)

  • First Shift: Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM

  • No call; No weekends

  • This position will rotate between the Durham Outpatient Center and HUB pharmacy locations

Duties: Specialty Pharmacy Technician

Assist specialty pharmacists in the management of patients receiving specialty medications. Provide adherence management to specialty patients and work as part of the care team to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Assist the specialty pharmacist with claims processing, preparation and dispensing of specialty medications. Assist with necessary documentation and reporting requirements to maintain URAC/ACHC Specialty Pharmacy Accreditation and access to a network of limited distribution drugs.
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to attend and successfully complete 160 hours of on the job training required.

  • High school education or equivalent required.

  • Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand held calculator required.

  • Exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail and effective problem solving skills required.

  • Licensed Nebraska pharmacy intern or registered as a pharmacy technician with the State of Nebraska Board of Pharmacy required.

  • Pharmacy Technician Certification within twelve months of licensed date required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pharmacy Technician experience with exposure to Specialty Pharmacy preferred.

  • Work experience which demonstrates analytical ability, judgment, and interpersonal skills in pharmacy or healthcare preferred.

  • Proficiency and experience with third party claims adjudication and claims rejection reconciliation preferred.

  • Proficiency and experience with non-sterile, sterile, and hazardous drug compounding preferred.

  • Pharmacy technician experience at Nebraska Medicine preferred.

  • Associates degree in business, healthcare or related field preferred.

  • Experience and proficiency with computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) or comparable program preferred.
