Clearance Required: Active DoD Secret
Shift: 1st Shift (9/80A)

Position Overview
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Technical Editor & Writer 2 to join a high-performing engineering team supporting electronic systems, sensors, and radar programs in Elkridge, MD.
This position supports Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) by developing, editing, and maintaining technical publications for military electronic and sensor-based systems. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience creating operation and maintenance documentation in accordance with military standards.
Note: This position is NOT for grant writers, proposal writers, or policy-focused government writers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, write, rewrite, and edit technical publications covering:
    • Hardware descriptions
    • Operation procedures
    • Maintenance and troubleshooting
    • Repair procedures
    • Parts documentation
  • Research and compile information from:
    • Engineering drawings
    • Technical data packages
    • Contractual documentation
    • Subject Matter Experts (SMEs)
  • Produce deliverables in:
    • Page-based formats
    • Electronic and interactive formats
    • Structured formats (HTML, XML, SGML)
  • Ensure documentation complies with military specifications and standards (MIL-STD).
  • Collaborate with engineers, task leads, instructors, and fellow writers within an IPT structure.
  • Conduct quality reviews of technical publications to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Support additional documentation tasks as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline or related field
    OR
  • Minimum 3 years of military operations and maintenance experience with radar, communications, electro-optics, networks, or IT-based sensors/systems
  • Active DoD Secret clearance (must be able to maintain clearance)
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various environments
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of engineering technical writing experience
  • Experience writing to military specifications and standards
  • Experience publishing structured documentation (HTML, XML, SGML)
  • Willingness to obtain higher-level clearance if required
  • Multi-disciplined background; military instructor experience a plus
