Role Overview:
Aeva is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team! This individual will design our optoelectronic products and carry them through the entire product lifecycle. They will be a key member in the development of new products from concept to final builds, partnering with cross-functional teams along the way.
What you'll be doing:
  • Development of new products including execution on concept, design, drawings, vendor selection, part evaluation, and product builds
  • Developing cutting edge Silicon Photonics (SiP) optoelectronic devices
  • Development of free space optics for optoelectronic devices
  • Detailed Tolerance Analyses of components and assemblies.
  • Maintenance, design, testing, and improvement of existing products
  • Product designs utilizing miniature optics, sub-micron alignments, and micron level passive placements
  • Fixture design and development ranging from prototype to production
  • Integration of mechanical, optical, and electrical components
  • Lead reviews of mechanical development activities
  • Interacting with CMs and suppliers to provide mechanical support for manufacturing of parts and products
What you have:
  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical Engineering with 5+ years of experience in related engineering roles
  • Experience with detail design, development and validation of mechanical assemblies for prototype volumes to mass manufacturing
  • Solid understanding of design for assembly and integration in complex optoelectronic devices including tolerance stack analysis
  • Knowledge in manufacturing processes for assembly of optoelectronic devices (die attach, wirebond, active alignment, hermetic sealing)
  • Experience in design for manufacturing across the entire product life cycle from concept thru volume production
  • Knowledge of part manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, machining, thin film and thick film ceramics, and HTCC ceramics is desirable
Nice to have:
  • Prototype and production equipment design experience
  • Manufacturing experience of optoelectronic devices
  • Geometric optics knowledge
  • Experience in semiconductor packaging / assembly processes and design rules

Salary pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, certifications, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges are subject to change in the future.
 
Depending on the position offered, equity, bonus, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, pre-tax commuter and health care/dependent care accounts, 401k plan, life and disability benefits, flexible time off, paid parental leave, and 11 paid holidays annually.
