Senior HSE Consultant (CSP Required)
Position Type: Part-Time / Contract (Hourly)Location: Los Angeles, CA & surrounding areas (Hybrid: Remote + On-Site Audits)
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly autonomous and deeply experienced Certified Safety Professional (CSP) with a minimum of 8 years of safety leadership to support our clients' comprehensive HSE initiatives on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for a veteran safety practitioner looking for flexible hours while delivering high-impact, expert-level safety solutions.
You will partner directly with clients across various high-stakes industries in the Greater Los Angeles area and Bakersfield to design, implement, and protect robust safety cultures. Your expertise will span senior-level HSE system design, complex incident root-cause investigations, heavy contractor management oversight, and navigating complex Cal/OSHA compliance environments.
Key Responsibilities
  • HSE System & Manual Management: Architect, review, and modernize client-specific HSE management systems, corporate safety manuals, and Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPPs) to ensure flawless alignment with evolving regulations.
  • Incident Investigation & Case Management: Lead complex root-cause investigations following major workplace incidents or near-misses using formal, defensible methodologies (e.g., TapRooT, 5 Whys, Fishbone). Oversee post-incident documentation, manage sensitive workers' compensation case coordination, and implement systemic corrective actions.
  • Contractor Safety Management: Establish and manage robust contractor pre-qualification programs. Oversee third-party safety performance via compliance platforms (ISNetworld, Avetta, Veriforce), audit subcontractor safety plans, and ensure field compliance during project execution.
  • Cal/OSHA Compliance & Reporting: Provide expert oversight for Cal/OSHA 300 logs, 300A annual summaries, and 301 incident reporting. Serve as the primary technical advisor to ensure full compliance with California's strict regulatory standards and support clients through any regulatory interactions.
  • Audits & Inspections: Conduct high-level, comprehensive safety and hazard vulnerability audits across clients' field operations, active construction sites, and manufacturing floors. Deliver actionable risk-mitigation strategies to executive leadership.
  • Safety Training: Design and deliver advanced HSE training programs tailored to both field personnel and executive management teams (e.g., Hazard Communication, LOTO, Fall Protection, Management Commitments to Safety).

Education & Certifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP): Active certification from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP) is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is highly preferred.

Experience & Knowledge
  • Minimum of 8+ years of progressive HSE experience, with a proven history of managing safety programs in complex or high-risk industries (e.g., construction, manufacturing, energy, aerospace, or heavy logistics).
  • Expert-level mastery of Cal/OSHA regulations and California Title 8 safety standards.
  • Extensive experience deploying and maintaining contractor management portals (ISN, Avetta, etc.).
  • Proven track record navigating complex workers' compensation claims and incident resolution workflows.

Skills & General Requirements
  • Location: Must be based in or near the Greater Los Angeles area and willing to travel throughout the state to client sites for field audits, incident responses, and training.
  • Executive-level communication skills, with the ability to influence behaviors on the shop floor and effectively advise C-suite leadership.
  • Superior technical writing skills for authoring formal investigation reports, corporate policies, and safety manuals.
  • Exceptional time-management capabilities to independently balance multiple client accounts and priorities simultaneously.

Pay Range:
  • $65/hr - $75/hr
