Job description

Turning Point Community Programs is seeking a Rehabilitation Counselor for our Garden Gate Respite (GGR) program in Modesto. Turning Point Community Programs (TPCP) provides integrated, cost-effective mental health services, employment and housing for adults, children and their families that promote recovery, independence and self-sufficiency. GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the administrative supervision of the Assistant Program Director, this position is responsible for the functioning of assigned client activities/care and the safety of residential/respite clients. Performs a wide range of functions related to facility maintenance, food preparation, crisis intervention, coaching and facility security.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is an at-will direct service position within a program. The position is responsible for assisting and advocating for our members in all areas of treatment and help them apply for and receive services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that could be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.

  • Assists in the identification of baseline behavior for clients.
  • Assists in the comprehensive evaluation of self-help skills.
  • Insures the safety of clients, does room/house checks as required on a regular basis.
  • Teaches daily living skills to clients.
  • Assists clients in the completion of their assigned tasks.
  • Plans and implements facility recreational activities.
  • Meets daily with clients and staff to organize work assignments, conduct group counseling, and discuss related issues.
  • Oversees facility housekeeping and insures chore completion.
  • Plans menu with the clients and shops for food/supplies as needed and manages the kitchen during meals.
  • Keeps other staff informed as to client’s progress and treatment needs.
  • Responsible for timely charting of client behaviors/issues during shift.
  • Records in the log significant events of the shift and observations of individual clients which may be relevant to the client’s treatment and/or success or failure at Turning Point.
  • Provides prompt intervention in the event of a crisis both to stop the crisis and to notify, when indicated, persons and agencies necessary for the resolution of the crisis situation; provides “on-the-spot” counseling that is both helpful to the clients and consistent with the philosophy of the program.
  • Attends to the safety of clients, does room/house check as required on a regular basis.
  • Adheres to and upholds the policies and procedures of Turning Point Community Programs.

Schedule: Friday - Sunday, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Compensation: $17.00 - $18.04 per hour
