What does a house cleaner do?

House cleaners clean a client’s home. They perform common household chores such as wiping down countertops, sinks, and tubs, vacuuming and mopping the floors, and dusting ceiling fans and baseboards. Some house cleaners also wash and fold laundry, scrub appliances, and clean up after pets on request. Deep cleanings go beyond the routine visit and provide a more thorough cleaning of each room. Companies or organizations may also hire a cleaning service to perform housekeeping duties in office buildings.

What is a house cleaner?

House cleaners are professionals who provide cleaning services for residential homes. Their duties typically include dusting, vacuuming, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms and kitchens, and performing other household cleaning tasks according to the client's needs. House cleaners may work independently or as part of a cleaning company, and they can offer regular, one-time, or deep cleaning services. Hiring a house cleaner can help maintain a clean and healthy living environment, saving homeowners time and effort.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a house cleaner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a House Cleaner, you need strong attention to detail, knowledge of cleaning techniques, and basic time management skills, with no formal education required but often some on-the-job training. Familiarity with cleaning products, equipment like vacuums and steam cleaners, and potential certifications in safe chemical handling are beneficial. Reliability, discretion, and strong customer service skills set standout cleaners apart in clients' homes. These abilities ensure efficient, thorough cleaning and build trust, leading to client satisfaction and repeat business.

What are some common challenges faced by house cleaners, and how can they be managed effectively?

House cleaners often encounter challenges such as managing time efficiently to meet client expectations, handling a variety of cleaning products safely, and adapting to different home layouts and client preferences. Effective communication with clients to clarify expectations and using checklists can help ensure nothing is overlooked. Additionally, staying organized and maintaining proper equipment can streamline tasks and reduce physical strain. Many house cleaners also find it helpful to keep up with best practices and safety guidelines to deliver high-quality results.

Job description

Come work somewhere that treats you like a professional.

Magnolia Cleaning Service has cleaned Tampa's finest homes for over 12 years, and we're growing again. If you're tired of late nights, weekend shifts, and customers taking a bad day out on you — this is a different kind of job.
We're hiring Cleaning Specialists who take pride in their work and want to be part of a team that actually likes showing up on Monday.

What we stand for
Magnolia was built on five things, and we hire and promote by them:
  • Honesty — with our clients, with each other, in the small moments no one's watching
  • Pride — in the work, in the details, in leaving a home better than we found it
  • Loyalty — we take care of our team, and our team takes care of each other
  • Teamwork — nobody carries the load alone here
  • Happiness — we believe good work and a good workday go together
If those match how you already live, you'll fit in fast.

What you'll actually earn
  • $14.50/hr during paid training while you learn our systems and standards
  • $15–$17/hr + tips as a Cleaning Specialist once you're up to speed
  • $17–$22.50/hr + tips as a Team Leader — and most of our leaders came up from the floor
  • Weekly paychecks, plus tips and performance bonuses
  • Paid travel time between homes and mileage reimbursement
  • Paid vacation starting at 6 months (8 hours every 3 months), growing to 20 hours per year after your first anniversary
  • Referral bonuses when you help us find good people

The schedule most cleaners wish they had
  • Monday–Friday, 7:45 am – 3-to-5 pm
  • No nights. No weekends. No holidays away from family.
  • 30–40 hours per week for most technicians
  • Same team, same routine, same supportive crew every day

Why people stay at Magnolia
We're not a franchise and we're not corporate. We're a family-owned business that has spent 12 years building something we're genuinely proud of.
You'll clean beautiful homes for clients who appreciate the work. You'll be trained on our 5-star standard by teammates who want you to succeed. And when you show up, work hard, and take pride in the finishing touches — the little things clients notice — you'll be recognized for it. That's not a promise on a poster; that's how we run.
We also invest in growth. If you want to move up to Team Leader, we'll help you get there. If you want to stay a great Cleaning Specialist, that's respected too.

Who does well here
  • You take pride in a job well done — the kind of person who notices the wrinkled bed skirt and smooths it
  • You show up on time, ready to work
  • You have a sharp eye for detail
  • You're comfortable in a high performing team
  • You're good around pets
  • You have a positive attitude — the kind that makes a workday better for everyone
No cleaning experience required. If you've worked in hotel housekeeping, caregiving, home health, or hands-on labor — and you like the sound of a Monday-through-Friday schedule with real weekends — come talk to us.

Requirements
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
  • English proficiency (spoken and written)
  • Valid driver's license and current auto insurance
  • Willing to pass a background check
  • Able to lift up to 45 lbs when needed
  • Available Monday–Friday with a 7:45 am start time
