About Augment Professional Services (APS)

Our mission is to connect experienced professionals with organizations executing complex projects and critical infrastructure initiatives.

Position Overview

Augment Professional Services (APS) is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Engineer to support project completions and commissioning activities across critical infrastructure and industrial environments in the Austin, Texas region. This is a field-based role focused on ensuring the safe, reliable startup and commissioning of electrical systems, with an emphasis on medium voltage distribution, switchgear, and protection systems.

The Electrical Commissioning Engineer will play a key role in late-stage project execution, working closely with project managers, field engineers, and client stakeholders to validate system performance, troubleshoot issues, and support successful system energization. This position reports to the Commissioning Manager, Ben Taylor, and requires strong hands-on expertise in field electrical systems, relay programming, and startup procedures.

A formal engineering degree is not required; however, candidates must demonstrate strong practical, field-based experience in electrical commissioning, startup, and completions within industrial, utility, or data center environments.

Qualifications
  • Hands-on experience with medium voltage (MV) electrical systems (typically 5kV–35kV)
  • Strong working knowledge of switchgear testing, inspection, and commissioning
  • Experience with protective relay programming, configuration, and testing (e.g., SEL, ABB, Siemens)
  • Proven experience supporting electrical startup and commissioning activities on active job sites
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, and construction drawings
  • Field troubleshooting experience with electrical distribution systems and control circuits
  • Familiarity with testing equipment such as meggers, relay test sets, and power quality analyzers
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
Preferred Experience / Qualifications
  • Experience in data centre, utility, renewable energy, or large-scale industrial projects
  • NETA certification (Level II, III, or IV) or equivalent field certification
  • Experience supporting project completions, punch lists, and turnover documentation
  • Background as a Field Electrical Engineer or Commissioning Technician
  • Strong communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to travel locally and work extended hours during critical commissioning phases
