AspectHourly Sign Painter

The main difference between an Hourly Sign Painter and a Commercial Sign Installer lies in their primary responsibilities. An Hourly Sign Painter focuses on designing, hand-painting, and applying signs, often working in workshops or on-site for detailed craftsmanship. In contrast, a Commercial Sign Installer specializes in installing pre-made signs at various locations, often working outdoors and handling heavy equipment. Both roles may require similar certifications, such as OSHA safety training, and are common in the sign industry. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers find the right fit based on skills and work environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an hourly sign painter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Hourly Sign Painter, you need strong artistic ability, attention to detail, and experience with paint application techniques, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with tools like brushes, spray guns, stencils, and sometimes computer-aided design (CAD) software is beneficial. Creativity, time management, and effective communication with clients and team members help you stand out in this role. These skills ensure visually appealing, accurate signage that meets client specifications and project deadlines.

What are some typical challenges an hourly sign painter might face on the job?

Hourly sign painters often encounter challenges such as working outdoors in varying weather conditions, managing tight deadlines, and ensuring consistency across multiple signs. Precision and attention to detail are crucial, as small errors can require repainting and affect project timelines. Collaboration with clients and other team members, such as designers or project managers, is also important to ensure the final product meets expectations and adheres to brand guidelines.

Keep Our Branches and Offices Running. Make a Visible Impact Every Day.

Are you a hands-on problem solver who takes pride in keeping buildings safe, functional, and looking their best? Do you enjoy variety in your workday and the satisfaction of fixing, maintaining, and improving an environment that people depend on?

At Orange County’s Credit Union (OCFCU), we're looking for a dependable and motivated Facilities Technician I to join our Facilities team. In this role, you'll play a critical part in supporting our 11 branches and headquarters by performing preventive maintenance (PM), responding to facility needs, and helping create an exceptional environment for our members and employees.

At Orange County’s Federal Credit Union (OCFCU), banking is personal—always has been. For more than 85 years, we’ve helped our members reach life’s milestones by building real relationships, not pushing transactions. With $3+ billion in assets and 145,000+ members, we’re proud of where we’ve come from—and excited about where we’re going next.

Our people-first philosophy isn’t just a tagline. It’s why we’ve been named #1 Credit Union by the Orange County Register for several years and most recently 2024 & 2025! We’re also honored with workplace satisfaction—driven directly by employee voices. When you join OCFCU, you’re joining a workplace where people genuinely enjoy coming to work and feel empowered to do meaningful, impactful work every day.

This is an excellent opportunity for a maintenance professional, skilled tradesperson, or mechanically inclined individual who enjoys working independently, solving problems, and making a positive impact across multiple locations.

What You'll Do

As a Facilities Technician I, you'll help drive our transition from reactive repairs to a proactive maintenance culture by:

  • Performing routine preventive maintenance inspections and repairs across the branch locations and headquarters. Follow this link to view the branch locations
  • Responding to work orders and resolving facility issues related to building systems, lighting, plumbing, furniture, and general maintenance
  • Conducting minor plumbing repairs, unclogging drains, replacing fixtures, and maintaining restroom and breakroom facilities
  • Assisting with HVAC preventive maintenance, including filter replacements, vent cleaning, and basic system upkeep
  • Performing painting, patching, caulking, touch-ups, and cosmetic repairs to maintain professional facility standards
  • Replacing lamps, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, ballasts, and other building components
  • Supporting office moves, furniture assembly, space reconfigurations, and equipment setup
  • Conducting site safety and compliance inspections, documenting findings, and helping maintain a safe workplace
  • Escorting vendors, monitoring service completion, and communicating findings to management
  • Maintaining facility supply inventory and organizing storage areas
  • Performing general labor tasks including lifting, carrying, cleaning, organizing, debris removal, and site cleanup
  • Installing signage, artwork, hardware, and other facility-related items

What Makes You a Great Fit

We're looking for someone who is reliable, adaptable, and takes ownership of their work. The ideal candidate enjoys rolling up their sleeves, finding solutions, and providing excellent service to internal customers.

  • Vocational training, trade school coursework, or certifications related to facilities maintenance, construction, or building operations
  • Three or more years of experience in facilities maintenance, janitorial services, construction, handyman work, general maintenance, or a related field
  • Experience working with basic plumbing, lighting, painting, HVAC maintenance, and general building repairs
  • Experience with work order systems and MS Office programs
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to perform physical work including lifting, carrying, bending, climbing, and standing for extended periods

Skills That Will Help You Succeed

  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting abilities
  • Attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Positive, service-oriented attitude
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Sound judgment and commitment to workplace safety
  • Strong organization and recordkeeping skills
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with employees, members, vendors, and contractors

Why Join OCFCU?

  • We believe great talent deserves fair, transparent pay—and room to grow. Hourly pay is based on experience, internal equity, and level: Facilities Technician I is $22.00 - $26.00 per hour.
  • Award‑winning workplace culture.
  • People before profits—always.
  • A team that supports each other and celebrates wins.
  • Health Coverage: Comprehensive benefits, including Anthem, Delta Dental, and VSP, effective from your first day.
  • Financial Security: Life insurance at no cost and a 401(k) plan with an employer match up to 6%.
  • Work-Life Balance: 13 days of vacation and seven (7) sick days annually and paid holidays.
  • Recognition & Growth: Annual merit increases, annual discretionary bonus, as well as educational grants up to $1,000 per year.
