Hourly Remote Architectural Drafting information

What is hourly remote architectural drafting?

Hourly remote architectural drafting involves creating technical drawings and plans for buildings or structures while working off-site, usually from your own location. Drafters use computer-aided design (CAD) software to convert architects’ ideas and sketches into detailed blueprints and construction documents. This work is billed by the hour, providing flexibility for both the drafter and the client. Remote drafting allows architectural firms to access specialized talent globally and scale their workforce as needed without the constraints of in-office employment.

What is the difference between Hourly Remote Architectural Drafting vs Hourly Remote Interior Design?

AspectHourly Remote Architectural DraftingHourly Remote Interior Design
CredentialsArchitectural drafting certifications, CAD proficiencyInterior design certifications, portfolio
Work EnvironmentDesign firms, architecture companies, remote CAD workDesign studios, client sites, remote consultations
Industry UsageArchitectural projects, construction documentsInterior spaces, decor, space planning

Hourly Remote Architectural Drafting focuses on creating detailed architectural plans and technical drawings for buildings, often requiring CAD skills and architectural certifications. In contrast, Hourly Remote Interior Design emphasizes designing interior spaces, selecting decor, and planning layouts, typically needing interior design credentials. Both roles can be performed remotely and serve the architecture and design industry, but they specialize in different aspects of building and space planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an hourly remote architectural drafter, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Hourly Remote Architectural Drafter, you need proficiency in architectural drafting principles, a solid understanding of building codes, and experience with design documentation, typically supported by an associate degree or relevant certification. Expertise in CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or SketchUp, along with familiarity with cloud-based project management platforms, is commonly required. Strong attention to detail, self-motivation, and effective remote communication skills help drafters excel in independent and collaborative tasks. These abilities enable accuracy, timely project delivery, and seamless coordination with architects and clients in a remote work environment.

What does a typical workflow look like for an hourly remote architectural drafter, and how do they collaborate with architects and clients?

As an hourly remote architectural drafting professional, your workflow typically involves receiving project briefs and design sketches from architects or project managers, then translating these into detailed technical drawings using CAD software. Communication is primarily digital, with regular updates, file exchanges, and feedback sessions conducted via email, video calls, or project management platforms. Collaboration is key, as you may need to clarify design intent, incorporate revisions, and coordinate with other remote team members or consultants. This role requires strong time management, adaptability to different client standards, and proactive communication to ensure expectations are met and deadlines are achieved.

Create the Designs That Keep Buildings Moving

Are you interested in sophisticated machinery and want to bring your skills to a great company? Lerch Bates is seeking a skilled designer to develop layout solutions, produce drawings, and be a point of contact and source of information for our clients. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in architecture or engineering, mechanical design experience, and previous experience with Revit. Lerch Bates does things differently. If you’re looking for a job that offers work-life balance, great benefits, and career development, we want to hear from you.

Become an Employee-Owner

One of the biggest advantages of working at Lerch Bates is that we are 100% employee-owned through our Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP).

Unlike many companies that offer only a salary and retirement plan, eligible employees receive company-funded ESOP shares at no cost to them as part of their long-term retirement benefits.

As Lerch Bates grows, employee-owners share in the company's success. For many employees, the ESOP becomes one of the most valuable financial benefits of their career by helping build meaningful long-term wealth in addition to their salary and traditional 401(k).

When you join Lerch Bates, you are not just building better buildings. You also have the opportunity to build your financial future alongside the company's success.

About Lerch Bates:

Lerch Bates (LB) is a global technical consulting firm focused on improving how buildings perform for owners, designers, and the people who use them every day. Today we provide Total Building Performance expertise that integrates Building Science and Building Flow into a unified delivery model.

Our work spans design, construction, investigation, repair, rehabilitation, management, and modernization with one consistent goal: helping clients make confident, well-informed decisions in an increasingly complex built environment.

We are 100% employee-owned through our ESOP. That means when the company succeeds, our employee-owners share in that success. It's more than a retirement benefit—it's an ownership mindset backed by the opportunity to build long-term financial value while helping shape the future of the company.
