Job description

The Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital is seeking an experienced Orthopedic Surgeon to serve as Section Chief of Orthopedics within Surgical Service.

This role combines clinical excellence and surgical leadership, with responsibility for the oversight of orthopedic services - including staffing, resident supervision, quality performance, and interdisciplinary coordination of care. The Section Chief will play a key role in shaping the orthopedic program and supporting high-quality access and outcomes for Veterans across the region.

This is a compelling leadership opportunity for an Orthopedic Surgeon who wants to build, mentor, and lead - while still practicing clinically and surgically. The incumbent will engage in an academic teaching environment and is expected to maintain relationships with the facility’s academic affiliate (University of Missouri) and may be considered for an Adjunct Assistant Professor designation.

Highlights:

  • Leadership platform: Section Chief role with influence, program oversight, and operational responsibility.
  • Mission + meaning: Serve Veterans while leading a team delivering essential surgical care.
  • Academic environment: Resident supervision and teaching responsibilities.
  • Lifestyle: Monday–Friday schedule with shared night/weekend call rotation.
  • Federal benefits + stability: Malpractice with tail coverage, no physician employment contract, and strong long-term benefits.

For the right leader, this is more than a job - it’s a chance to leave a legacy in Veteran care.
