Department Summary

UNT Health is the academic clinical practice for the Health Science Center. Focused on improving health outcomes to build a healthier community. UNT Health primary and multi-specialty care clinics are located on the UNTHSC campus in Fort Worth. Our care teams extend to local hospitals, surgery centers, and mobile and in-home care. UNT Health's interprofessional teams work collaboratively to achieve an optimized treatment plan tailored to the individual patient. Physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, physical therapists, pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, specialized technicians, and nurses work together while intentionally integrating healthcare, students, residents, and fellows to deliver care to our community.

Position Overview

UNT Health Family Medicine is seeking a compassionate Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team of healthcare providers at the University of North Texas Health Science Center. This role requires a candidate with strong organizational skills, a wide set of interests and skill set, and strong interpersonal communication abilities. Candidate must exhibit compassion, understanding, the ability to work well in teams, and the ability to function in a fast-paced environment is critical for this position.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program, BLS Certified

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Maintains and enhances clinical skills and knowledge on a regular basis; keeps up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise.

  • Respect for Standard Understands and respects the need for structured guidelines and protocols, willing to ask for clarification if something doesn't make sense and could cause harm to a patient or result in less than an excellent level of care; demonstrates compliance with required standards.
  • Customer Focus Continually searches for ways to provide value-added solutions to customers; understands and anticipates customers needs and keeps customers needs in mind when making decisions; takes responsibility for customer satisfaction and loyalty; solicits customer feedback to ensure satisfaction.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in ambulatory care, NextGen experience, Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Required License/Registration/Certifications

Medical Assistant certification, and CPR (BLS) certification.

Job Duties

  • Thoroughly complete provider orders, referrals, and insurance authorizations to ensure timely delivery of care and provide patient with educational material. 
  • Deliver patient-centered care that respects each patient's individual beliefs, values, and preferences while ensuring high-quality, compassionate care.
  • Optimize patient scheduling by managing patient flow and providing access to care. Following standard Department workflows. 
  • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Clean and sterilize instruments and properly dispose of contaminated or expired medical supplies.
  • Measure patient vital signs as standard of care. Perform procedures, injections, and administer vaccines as ordered by the provider. All care is documented in the electronic health record. 

Physical Requirements

  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Lifting and moving objects up to 20 pounds.
  • Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another.
  • Repetitive motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

  • No adverse environmental conditions expected.
