Hourly Laborer information

What is an hourly laborer?

Hourly laborers are workers who are paid based on the number of hours they work, rather than receiving a fixed salary. They typically perform manual or physical tasks in industries such as construction, warehousing, manufacturing, or landscaping. The specific duties of an hourly laborer can vary widely, but often include tasks like lifting, moving materials, cleaning, and assisting skilled tradespeople. Hourly laborers are often employed on a temporary or part-time basis, depending on the employer's needs.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an hourly laborer?

To thrive as an Hourly Laborer, you need basic physical fitness, reliability, and the ability to follow instructions, with a high school diploma or equivalent often preferred. Familiarity with hand tools, safety gear, and sometimes basic machinery or warehouse management systems is commonly required. Dependability, a strong work ethic, and teamwork are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities ensure productivity, workplace safety, and smooth collaboration in physically demanding environments.

What are common challenges hourly laborers face, and how can they be managed?

Hourly laborers often encounter challenges such as physically demanding tasks, varying work schedules, and adapting to different job sites or teams. To manage these effectively, it's important to maintain good communication with supervisors about expectations and schedules, prioritize safety practices, and focus on teamwork to ensure tasks are completed efficiently. Additionally, staying adaptable and proactive in learning new tasks can help with job stability and open up opportunities for advancement within the company.

Job description

General Laborer

Company Overview

M&M Recycling is a family-run recycling company in Atlanta, GA, focused on doing things the right way: working hard, staying safe, and taking care of our people. We keep valuable metals and materials moving through the recycling process, helping businesses and communities reduce waste.

We offer steady work, a strong team environment, and real opportunities to grow your skills and responsibilities over time.

The Opportunity

As a General Laborer, you will play a key role in keeping our yard and warehouse running smoothly. This is active, hands-on work where you are on your feet, moving materials, and working outdoors as part of a tight-knit crew.

If you like physical work, want to stay busy, and care about doing the job right, this role gives you a chance to build a long-term career in a stable, growing industry.

What You'll Do
  • Load and unload materials from trucks to keep operations moving safely and on schedule.
  • Sort metals such as copper, aluminum, and brass according to type and quality.
  • Use hand tools, pallet jacks, and forklifts (with training provided) to move and organize materials.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas in the yard and warehouse.
  • Jump in wherever needed to support your teammates and keep daily production on track.
What Success Looks Like
  • Within your first 30–60 days, you consistently show up on time, learn the daily routines, and can handle basic loading, unloading, and sorting tasks with minimal direction.
  • By 3–6 months, you safely and confidently use equipment such as pallet jacks and, if trained, forklifts, while meeting productivity expectations.
  • You follow all safety rules, keep your work area clean, and help maintain a safe environment for yourself and your team.
  • Your teammates and supervisors can rely on you to step in where needed, communicate clearly, and help keep materials flowing smoothly throughout the yard.
What We're Looking For
  • A strong work ethic and reliability — you show up on time, ready to work every day.
  • Comfort working in a physical, fast-paced, outdoor environment and the ability to lift 50 lbs consistently.
  • Ability to follow directions, stay focused, and work well as part of a team that depends on each other.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work; scrap or warehouse experience is a plus but not required.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Competitive hourly pay: $16.00 – $16.50 per hour (based on experience).
  • Overtime opportunities available.
  • Full-time, steady schedule with training and advancement opportunities.
  • Work hours: Monday–Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Saturday 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM.
How to Apply

If you are ready to work hard, be part of a solid team, and build a future with a stable company, apply today to join M&M Recycling as a General Laborer. Pre-employment drug testing is required.
