Job description

KAY MILES TRANSPORTATION (KMT)Adult Day Care Transportation DriverPosition Overview

Kay Miles Transportation (KMT) is seeking dependable, professional, and safety-conscious drivers to support a new Monday–Friday adult day care transportation route in Brooklyn, NY.

Drivers will be responsible for safely transporting adult day care participants between designated pickup locations and the day care center while maintaining a professional, respectful, and dependable level of service.

The preliminary operation consists of 24 routed participants across two 14-passenger Sprinter vans. Morning routes are currently planned to arrive at the center at approximately 8:30 AM, with afternoon service beginning at approximately 1:30 PM.

Adult Day Care Transportation Assignment

Position: Adult Day Care Transportation Driver

Location: Brooklyn, New York

Schedule: Monday–Friday

Positions Available: 2

Regular Hourly Rate: $24.50/hour

Midday Break / Personal Time

The anticipated schedule contains a significant gap between the completion of the morning transportation assignment and the beginning of the afternoon transportation assignment.

The anticipated afternoon departure from the day care center is approximately 1:30 PM.

During the portion of the midday gap in which the driver is fully relieved from duty:

  • The driver is not required to remain at the day care center.
  • The driver is not required to remain with the KMT vehicle.
  • The driver may use the time for personal purposes.
  • The driver is not expected to perform work for KMT during this period.
  • The driver must return and be ready to resume assigned duties at the designated afternoon reporting time.

The exact schedule and duration of the midday personal period will be communicated by KMT based on the finalized route.

Legally Required Additional Compensation

KMT will provide any additional compensation required by applicable wage and hour laws.

Where New York's spread-of-hours requirements apply, an employee whose workday spans more than 10 hours may be entitled to an additional hour of pay at the applicable minimum wage rate. New York Department of Labor guidance explains that the spread includes off-duty periods between shifts.

For 2026, the New York City minimum wage is $17.00 per hour.

Any legally required additional compensation will be separately identified in payroll records and will not be described as the driver's regular hourly rate or as a $17/hour “downtime rate.”

Return to Afternoon Assignment

The employee is responsible for returning and being ready to work at the assigned afternoon reporting time.

Once the employee resumes compensable work, the employee's regular rate of:

$24.50/hour

will apply to applicable working time.

Overtime

KMT will comply with applicable overtime requirements. Under New York guidance, most non-exempt employees must receive overtime at one and one-half times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek, subject to applicable exemptions.

The employee's regular rate for this position is $24.50/hour, making the standard overtime rate $36.75/hour when overtime is legally required and calculated from that regular rate.

Timekeeping

Employees are responsible for accurately recording all required working time.

Employees must not:

  • Record time they did not work.
  • Work off the clock.
  • Perform KMT work during an unpaid/personal period without authorization.
  • Alter or falsify time records.
  • Clock in or out on behalf of another employee.

Any discrepancy in recorded time must be reported to KMT management promptly.

Attendance & Punctuality

Because passengers depend on scheduled transportation, punctuality is an essential function of this position.

Drivers are expected to:

  • Report on time.
  • Be ready to begin their assigned route at the scheduled reporting time.
  • Notify management as soon as reasonably possible if they will be late or unable to report.
  • Return from the midday personal period in sufficient time to begin the afternoon assignment as scheduled.

Repeated lateness, excessive absenteeism, or failure to follow the assigned schedule may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

Safety & Professional Conduct

Drivers must operate KMT vehicles safely and professionally at all times.

Drivers are expected to:

  • Follow all traffic laws.
  • Follow KMT safety procedures.
  • Maintain a clean vehicle.
  • Report vehicle defects or maintenance concerns immediately.
  • Maintain passenger confidentiality.
  • Treat passengers, families, facility staff, coworkers, and management respectfully.
  • Never operate a vehicle while impaired.
  • Follow all applicable KMT transportation policies.

  • Assist passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle when appropriate and within the driver's permitted duties.
  • Conduct required vehicle safety checks before operating the vehicle.
  • Communicate promptly with KMT management regarding delays, incidents, passenger concerns, or vehicle issues.
  • Maintain passenger confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Follow all KMT safety, attendance, communication, and operational policies.
  • Provide respectful and courteous service to every passenger.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle being operated.
  • Clean and acceptable driving record.
  • Reliable transportation to and from assigned work locations.
  • Ability to consistently report to work on time.
  • Ability to safely operate a passenger van.
  • Strong communication and customer-service skills.
  • Professional appearance and conduct.
  • Ability to follow assigned routes, schedules, and company procedures.

  • CNA or other relevant caregiving experience is a plus.
  • Located in Brooklyn NY for easy accessibility to vehicles in preferred but not required.
Driver Policies & ExpectationsAttendance & Punctuality

Drivers are expected to report to their assigned location on time and ready to operate the vehicle. Because passenger transportation operates according to scheduled pickups, repeated lateness, no-shows, or last-minute call-outs may result in disciplinary action.

Safety

Passenger safety is the driver's highest priority. Drivers must operate vehicles responsibly, obey all traffic laws, and immediately report accidents, safety concerns, vehicle defects, or passenger emergencies.

No Unauthorized Passengers

Drivers may not transport unauthorized individuals in a KMT vehicle while performing company routes.

Cell Phone Policy

Drivers may not text, browse, or otherwise use a handheld phone while operating the vehicle. Communication should only occur when the vehicle is safely parked.

Vehicle Care

Drivers are responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly vehicle and reporting any damage, mechanical concerns, or maintenance issues immediately.

Professional Conduct

Drivers are expected to treat passengers, families, facility staff, coworkers, and management with professionalism and respect. Harassment, discrimination, inappropriate language, arguments, or disrespectful conduct will not be tolerated.

Passenger Confidentiality

Passenger information, addresses, schedules, medical or personal information, and other confidential details must not be shared with unauthorized individuals.

Route Compliance

Drivers are expected to follow their assigned route and pickup/drop-off schedule. Changes to a route or schedule must be approved by KMT management unless necessary to address an immediate safety concern.

Substance-Free Workplace

Drivers must report to work fit for duty and may not operate a KMT vehicle while impaired by alcohol, drugs, or any substance that could affect safe vehicle operation.

Communication

Drivers must maintain reliable communication with KMT management during assigned shifts and promptly report delays, emergencies, passenger issues, or other circumstances that may affect service.

Important Operational Note

The current route schedule is preliminary and subject to change. Pickup times are estimates and will be finalized after route and traffic validation. Afternoon drop-off sequencing will also be finalized based on the most efficient geographic routing and live traffic conditions.

KMT currently anticipates using three Sprinter vehicles for the operation to provide sufficient operational flexibility.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is reliable, patient, professional, safety-focused, and genuinely enjoys helping people. This position is best suited for a driver who understands that passenger transportation requires consistency, punctuality, communication, and professionalism every day.
