Position Summary
**We are accepting applications for this position from all students regardless of work study award, however, work study is preferred**
The Dean of Students Office (DOS) is hiring a creative and strategic Communication & Marketing Assistant to join our team in Fall 2026. As a Communication & Marketing Assistant, you will help connect students and other members of the UNM community with DOS resources, support services, and opportunities through strategic communication, content creation, and digital marketing initiatives. This position goes beyond creating social media posts and graphics. The successful candidate will collaborate with professional staff to communicate information about the Dean of Students Office through various media and platforms, including social media, websites, printed materials, and public engagement. As the Communication & Marketing Assistant, your goal will be to communicate information and content about the Dean of Students Office in the most effective way.
The Communication & Marketing Assistant directly supports the Student Well-Being Team, the Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities, the Office of Parents & Families, and the Parent & Family Association. This position secondarily supports promotion of the Nusenda Center for Financial Capability and LoboRESPECT Advocacy Center by reposting social media content, engaging with their services/events, and re-packaging their content for communication on Dean of Students Office-specific channels. While every day is likely to vary, your duties will include (but are not limited to) coordination of the Dean of Students social media accounts and communication and marketing work as detailed below:
  • Developing student-facing communications for Dean of Students websites, social media accounts, and print.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of a communications strategy that fits content with the appropriate platforms.
  • Creating and curating cohesive, brand-aligned social media content using Adobe software, Canva, etc.
  • Writing and editing original, quality copy for print marketing materials, newsletters, websites, etc.
  • Filming and editing videos for social media content.
  • Producing original photographic elements featuring campus life, events, and locations
  • Assisting professional staff with website updates and design
  • Attending department and University events to generate content and communicate the role of the Dean of Students Office to the UNM community.
  • Keeping up-to-date metrics and producing periodic reports featuring this data.
  • Other relevant projects/tasks as assigned

The Communication & Marketing Assistant will collaborate with staff from all units to plan, produce, and distribute content. Work will be completed under the direction of a supervisor, who will field incoming tasks, manage project progress, and provide support where needed. However, there is opportunity within this position for self-initiated work, creative expression, and skill improvement for candidates who make the most of the role.
Work may be completed outside of regular business hours with hybrid remote work, subject to performance and schedule considerations. Most of your working hours must be completed in person between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday-Friday. Projects may be given with short notice, so time management and communication with your supervisor and colleagues are key.
The successful candidate can expect to work approximately 15-20 hours per week starting at the beginning of Fall 2026. Applicants must be able to work during Fall 2026. Applicants can continue working in the Dean of Students Office in subsequent semesters, depending on availability and performance.
The Communication & Marketing Assistant will occasionally assist with front desk coverage, including answering phone calls, greeting visitors, and taking messages for front office staff.
