Job description

Overview

The Used Equipment Inspector is responsible for inspecting potential trade, consignment, purchase and rental fleet retirement machines. This position has full ownership and accountability for accurate and complete visual inspections (wear points, damage, undercarriage measurements, oil sampling etc.) and functional testing for basic operations on heavy equipment.

Territory: This role will support our teams in the following branches- Greenville, Rockhill, Seneca, Simpsonville, Spartanburg.

Responsibilities
  • Contributes to a positive work environment and promotes the vision, mission and values of BMC.
  • Completes all job responsibilities in a safe manner, promotes and champions a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Travel independently to customer sites to inspect used equipment for potential purchases, trades, and consignments utilizing CAT Inspection Software. with full responsibility for accuracy and completion of duties.
  • Perform contracted inspection for extended warranty purchases (EPP) on customer owned machines.
  • Perform contract inspection for Caterpillar financial inventory.
  • Inspect rental fleet retirement machines using CAT inspection software
  • Photograph machines to produce clear, high-quality images for marketing and resale purposes
  • Operate equipment safely and effectively as part of the inspection evaluation process.
  • Verify equipment condition is consistent with aging and machine hours. Report on variances.
  • Ensure the quality, accuracy, and clarity of all equipment data and related information.
  • Identify and document equipment components, accessories, attachments, and all relevant asset attributes.
  • Confirm warranty requirements/compliance and ensure proper documentation for applicable items.
  • Measure and assess undercarriages condition on used and rental fleet retirement machines.
  • Coordinate inspection processes proactively with sales representatives and customers.
  • Assist the Sales Team with equipment appraisals and machine condition reporting.
  • Serve as a technical expert in the field to the Used Equipment Team by providing expert insights and field support.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational objectives.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or (GED) equivalent required.
  • 5+ years of experience as a heavy equipment techician or in a closely related role with experience in all makes and models of construction equipment.
  • Prior experience in equipment management (inspections, inventory, and appraisals) and/or inventory control management, preferably in the auction or heavy equipment business.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to meet Company Driver Qualifications.
  • Knowledge of industrial and/or agricultural equipment, trucks, and trailers.
  • Must have experience operating heavy equipment in a safe and professional manner.
  • Foundational set of tools required to complete essential inspection functions of job.
  • Organizational and time management skills required.
  • Must have the ability to set and keep priorities and professionally handle the stress associated with dealing with a fast-paced industry and deadlines.
  • Must be a Team player that is enthusiastic and hard working with the ability to complete work with minimal supervision.
  • High degree of interpersonal skills with solid written and oral communication skills is required.
  • Must possess the personal discipline to establish the proper image as a representative of Blanchard Machinery with the ability to meet and work with the customer in a professional manner.
  • Ability to perform duties with a sense of urgency, exceeding customer expectations. 
  • Able to work in a dynamic, fast paced service environment. 
  • Proficient in the use of a computer and related software (Word, Excel, etc.). 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy. 

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside (non-climate controlled) and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to injury and/or hazardous materials.
  • Extensive car travel primarily throughout South Carolina and other locations, as necessary.
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment safely and effectively.
  • Requires standing, stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, twisting, turning, lifting.
  • Must be able to lift varied weight.
  • Seeing, reading, and writing to complete job responsibilities.
  • Use of computer and other forms of technology to complete job responsibilities.
