Job Description

$31.48 - $46.69 Hourly
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union.
DEPARTMENT: Development Services
HOURS OF WORK: Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00
LOCATION: 4700 Elmore Road
Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.
To be considered for employment, applicants must be legally authorized to work and accept employment in the United States. The Municipality of Anchorage is not able to provide any type of sponsorship, including Student Visas and Employment Visas, under any circumstances.
Example of Duties
Under direction of the Supervisor, manage building and land use projects from application to Certificate of Occupancy issuance; answer technical code questions; make engineering value judgements; manage retrofit building and fire rehab application approvals; review small project specifications for adherence to submittal requirements; receive, monitor and resolve customer complaints; coordinate plan reviews and approvals with appropriate staff; and manage coverage of the ACD (Automatic Call Distribution) telephone system. Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Qualifications/Responsibilities
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, and six (6) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field, including one (1) year enforcing Anchorage land use regulation (AMC, Title 21 or COSA), or at the Plan Reviewer I level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Associate's degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics or similar discipline, and four (4) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field, including one (1) year enforcing Anchorage land use regulation (AMC, Title 21 or COSA), or at the Plan Reviewer I level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
OR
Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics or similar discipline, and two (2) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field, including one (1) year enforcing Anchorage land use regulation (AMC, Title 21 or COSA), or at the Plan Reviewer I level with the Municipality of Anchorage, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Preference:
ICC certification as a Permit Technician
Valid State of Alaska Driver's License.
