Assistant Maintenance Technician
Job Type: Full-Time | Onsite
Pay: Competitive hourly rate + commission

At CAF Management, Assistant Maintenance Technicians are essential to what makes our apartment communities feel like home. From daily service requests to preventive upkeep, you'll support the maintenance team in delivering fast, reliable, and high-quality work for our residents.

This is a great role for someone who enjoys hands-on work, takes pride in fixing things the right way, and is looking for a long-term career path in property management. Many of our Lead Technicians and Maintenance Supervisors began in this role-and grew with us.

What You'll Do

  • Respond to service requests in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with apartment turns, repairs, and unit inspections
  • Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical, plumbing, and appliance issues
  • Help maintain community grounds, amenities, and common areas
  • Work with vendors and maintenance team to complete larger projects
  • Ensure all work complies with safety guidelines and company standards
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and supply inventory
  • Communicate clearly with residents and team members to ensure satisfaction

What You'll Need to Succeed

Required:

  • Basic knowledge of apartment maintenance tasks (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, appliances)
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Availability to work Saturdays (closed Sundays) and participate in on-call rotation as needed
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in apartment, facilities, or building maintenance
  • HVAC certification or EPA license (a plus, not required)
  • Bilingual abilities

Physical Requirements
This role requires frequent physical activity and mobility around the apartment community. Team members must be able to safely perform the following tasks:

  • On your feet: 33% to 100% of the time
  • Physical activities (50% to 100%):
  • Bend/stoop/squat/kneel (e.g., repairing fixtures, working in tight spaces)
  • Climb stairs and ladders (e.g., inspecting units, accessing rooftops or crawl spaces)
  • Push/pull, stand, and walk (e.g., moving equipment, transporting tools)
  • Reach above shoulders (e.g., changing lights, accessing HVAC units)
  • Grasp/grip/turn and use finger dexterity (e.g., using tools, handling parts)
  • Lifting/Carrying:
  • Over 50 lbs: Rare need (less than 1%)
  • 10-25 lbs: Occasional need (1% to 33%)
  • Under 10 lbs: Frequent need (33% to 100%)
