Job description

Company: tastytrade
Role: Fraud Analyst
Location: Chicago, IL - Hybrid (3 days/week in office)

As a Fraud Analyst, you will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing account activity, trading behavior, and transactional patterns to detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity across the firm's customer base. You'll take the lead on complex investigations and help shape the firm's broader fraud detection strategy. This role requires an understanding of fraud typologies specific to brokerage/fintech platforms - including account takeover, identity fraud, and payment/ACH fraud - along with strong analytical, investigative, and communication skills.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead complex and high-risk fraud investigations end-to-end, including coordinated fraud rings, synthetic identities, and sophisticated account takeover schemes
  • Conduct fraud risk assessments to identify and mitigate emerging fraud vectors across products, services, and customer segments, and present findings
  • Collaborate with risk, compliance, legal, and customer support to resolve escalations and ensure a consistent, well-documented investigative standard across the team
  • Communicate directly with customers on complex fraud and account security matters, including verification requests and dispute resolution
  • Maintain accurate documentation of investigations, case outcomes, and fraud loss reporting in line with internal recordkeeping standards
  • Monitor emerging fraud trends (e.g., AI-generated identity fraud, social engineering, SIM-swapping) and proactively recommend process or detection improvements
  • Operate with significant autonomy in managing a caseload of the firm's most complex and highest-risk investigations.

Who You Are:

  • 3-5 years of experience in fraud analysis, fraud operations, or transaction monitoring, ideally within a broker-dealer, fintech, or financial services environment
  • Proven track record leading complex fraud investigations
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to identify suspicious patterns across large datasets, conduct detailed investigations, and make sound judgment calls based on incomplete information
  • Experience working with fraud detection tooling (e.g., device fingerprinting, behavioral analytics, case management platforms)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders, customers, and (when needed) external parties or law enforcement
  • Collaborative and team-oriented approach, capable of influencing cross-functionally with risk, compliance, product, and engineering teams
  • Willingness to obtain Series 3, 7 & 63 (or 66) licenses if not already held - tastytrade will sponsor and support the licensing process
  • CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) certification is a plus
