Job description

TekPro is partnered with a leading precision machining company for the aerospace and defense industries in their search for CNC Lathe Machinists! Strong machine setup, program editing, and experience with several brands of machines is highly preferred for this position. This is a modern, 150,000 sq. foot air-conditioned facility with modern equipment, above market hourly pay, strong 10% shift differential, and consistently 10+ hours per week OT availabile.

Position Summary

The CNC Lathe Setup Machinist is responsible for independently setting up, operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining CNC turning centers to manufacture precision-machined components in accordance with engineering drawings, quality requirements, and production schedules. This role requires strong blueprint reading skills, GD&T interpretation, machine setup expertise, and the ability to maintain tight tolerances while supporting efficient production.

Responsibilities
  • Review work orders, engineering drawings, quality requirements, material specifications, and machining instructions to determine setup and machining requirements.
  • Interpret blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to ensure compliance with customer and quality standards.
  • Perform complete machine setups, including installation and adjustment of workholding devices, tooling, fixtures, and machine attachments.
  • Load and secure raw materials and workpieces using appropriate lifting and material handling methods.
  • Verify setup accuracy by producing and inspecting first-piece samples and making adjustments as necessary to achieve dimensional requirements.
  • Operate CNC turning equipment while monitoring machining processes including turning, facing, drilling, grooving, boring, threading, and related operations.
  • Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust offsets, edit programs as needed, and replace tooling to maintain productivity and quality.
  • Follow established quality procedures, work instructions, and production requirements.
  • Maintain a safe work environment by adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Perform routine machine maintenance and support preventative maintenance activities to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Accurately complete production records, inspection documentation, and shift communication logs.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, programmers, engineers, and fellow machinists to support production goals.
  • Continuously develop technical skills and machining knowledge through training, technical resources, and hands-on experience.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to overall operational excellence.

Must be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. due to ITAR regulations for defense work
