A day in the life

You clock in ready to own your queue. First stop: review work orders, blueprints, specs, and CAM programs to plan your setups. You stage tooling, fixtures, and materials, then set up CNC mills (3-, 4-, and 5-axis) and CNC lathes based on the job mix.

  • Verify workholding, tool offsets, and machine parameters before first article
  • Run parts to exacting tolerances—measuring with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools throughout
  • Watch the machines; make authorized adjustments to keep quality and cycle times on target
  • Document production and quality checks accurately and on time
  • Flag machining, tooling, programming, equipment, or quality issues to supervisors/technical support early
  • Manage your workflow to align with the shop schedule and customer priorities
  • Keep your cell clean, organized, and safe; follow all Pro-Type safety, quality, and operating procedures
  • Pitch in on general Machine Shop and cross-functional production needs when asked
What you bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 18 years of age
  • Hands-on CNC machining or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of CNC processes, mills and/or lathes; exposure to 3-, 4-, or 5-axis machining is a plus
  • Confident reading blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and machining specs
  • Ability to follow CAM/CNC programs and setup instructions
  • Skilled with precision measurement (calipers, micrometers, gauges, and related inspection tools)
  • Understanding of tolerances, tooling, feeds/speeds, and workholding fundamentals
  • Know when to follow established programs and when to escalate for help
  • Detail-obsessed, quality-driven, organized, and dependable—able to meet schedules and support overtime when needed
  • Comfort working independently and collaborating with Machine Shop, Quality, Engineering, and Production teams
  • Ability to safely lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform bending, reaching, handling, and other typical manufacturing activities
