Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Principal Site/Civil Engineer to help grow and lead our Community Development practice in New Mexico. This role is ideal for an experienced civil engineer and project leader who wants to guide rural, public roadway, parks, and facilities as well as private site development support, while building lasting client relationships across the state.

You will serve as a trusted technical and client leader, working closely with cross-disciplinary teams to deliver high-quality projects, mentor staff, support business development, and strengthen Stantec’s presence in New Mexico. Our team has a long history with loyal clients and an active backlog of meaningful public and private sector work.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, inspire, and help grow a high-performing site/civil and local roadway design team.

  • Client Leadership: Serve as a primary point of contact for clients and internal partners, building trusted relationships and maintaining clear communication throughout project delivery.

  • Business Development: Meet regularly with private, municipal, county, state, and rural clients to understand needs, identify future work, support grant-funded opportunities, scope projects, and prepare proposals.

  • Project Delivery: Manage multiple projects from planning through design and construction support, including scope, budget, schedule, quality, risk, profitability, and client satisfaction.

  • Technical Guidance: Provide senior-level review and direction for site/civil, roadway, drainage, grading, utility, and infrastructure design documents.

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Interpersonal Communication: - Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative, team-oriented leadership style

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients, agencies, and project teams

  • Engineering:- Design experience in site/civil, roadway, drainage, and utility infrastructure preferred

  • Deep understanding of design, construction, permitting, funding, and agency approval processes in the state of New Mexico

  • Project Management: Demonstrated project management experience, including responsibility for scope, budget, schedule, quality, and client service

  • Possess a valid driver’s license and good driving record

Education and Experience
  • 15+ years of civil engineering experience preferred; strong senior project managers ready for principal-level leadership will be considered

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline

  • Registered Professional Engineer in New Mexico, or ability to obtain New Mexico registration by comity within six months.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Work from home and hybrid work schedules may be accommodated.
