How much do hourglass jobs pay per hour?

As of Jun 8, 2026, the average hourly pay for hourglass in the United States is $23.06, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $18.27 and $26.44 per hour, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are the common challenges faced by hourglass modelers in the glassblowing industry?

Hourglass modelers often encounter challenges such as maintaining precise symmetry between the two bulbs, preventing air bubbles, and ensuring the neck's narrowness is uniform for accurate sand flow. Working with hot glass requires strong attention to detail, dexterity, and patience, as even minor errors can lead to product defects. Collaborating closely with other artisans and quality control teams is common, and adapting to evolving design requirements can also present challenges.

What is the difference between Hourglass vs Makeup Artist?

AspectHourglassMakeup Artist
CredentialsTypically no formal certification required, but industry experience preferredProfessional certification or training often recommended
Work EnvironmentFilm, theater, or special effects settingsBeauty salons, photo shoots, events
Industry UsageUsed in special effects, costume design, and theatrical productionsUsed in cosmetics, fashion, and personal beauty services

While both roles involve creative work, Hourglass refers to a specific technique or style often used in special effects or costume design, whereas a Makeup Artist focuses on cosmetic application and beauty enhancement. The main difference lies in their typical work environments and skill sets, with Hourglass being more specialized in visual effects and Makeup Artists working primarily in beauty and fashion industries.

What are hourglass jobs?

The term 'hourglass jobs' typically refers to jobs that are at the top and bottom of the skills and income spectrum, with fewer opportunities in the middle. This concept comes from the 'hourglass economy,' where there is growth in high-skill, high-pay roles and low-skill, low-pay roles, but a decline in stable, middle-income jobs. This trend is often driven by technological advancements and automation, which replace many middle-skill positions. As a result, workers may need to adjust their skills or seek retraining to fit into the changing job market.

What is an Hourglass job?

An Hourglass job typically refers to a role with peak periods of high workload and slower periods in between, resembling the shape of an hourglass. These jobs often require flexibility, as employees may need to handle intense bursts of work followed by downtime. Industries such as consulting, project management, and seasonal businesses often have Hourglass job structures. Understanding workload cycles can help employees effectively manage their time and maintain productivity.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Hourglass, and why are they important?

I'm sorry, but 'Hourglass' is not a recognized real-world professional occupation.
