JOB DESCRIPTION

HOTEL ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER (AGM) — Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott - Foley, AL

Also known as: Assistant General Manager, Assistant Hotel Manager, Hotel Operations Manager, Second in Command, Hotel AGM

Location: Foley, AL (Baldwin County / Gulf Coast)

Status: Full-Time | Exempt

Schedule: Varies, incl. weekends & holidays

Industry: Hospitality / Hotel Management

A&R Hospitality is hiring a Hotel Assistant General Manager (AGM) to help lead hotel operations at our Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott in Foley, AL. This hotel management position is a true leadership role — the Assistant General Manager serves as the General Manager's right hand and the hotel's second-in-command, with property-wide authority over Front Desk, Housekeeping, Reservations, Guest Services, Security, and Maintenance.

This is a hands-on hotel leadership role, not a desk job: you'll coach your hotel team to perform at their best, turn guest concerns into five-star guest satisfaction scores, and drive occupancy, ADR, and revenue growth. If you have hotel supervisory or hotel management experience and are ready for a career-building Assistant General Manager role with real growth potential toward General Manager, apply today.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS HOTEL MANAGEMENT ROLE

  • Real leadership authority — property-wide hotel operations oversight from day one, not just one department
  • A clear career path — this Assistant General Manager role is built as a springboard to General Manager
  • Variety every day in a fast-paced hospitality management environment — no two shifts look the same
  • Backed by a trusted brand — Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott hotel standards, systems, and support

WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR AS ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

HOTEL OPERATIONS & DEPARTMENT OVERSIGHT

  • Take the lead directing and coordinating daily hotel operations across Front Desk, Housekeeping, Reservations, Guest Services, Security, and Maintenance
  • Hold every department accountable to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), stepping in with fast, decisive corrective action whenever hotel operations standards slip
  • Serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) as scheduled, ensuring the property always has strong, visible hotel leadership on-site
  • Champion consistent use of Quore hotel software across all departments for task management and documentation
  • Set the tone for a professional, cooperative, and positive hotel work environment property-wide

LEADERSHIP & TEAM DEVELOPMENT

  • Coach, motivate, and train hotel department supervisors, building the accountability and performance that drives a winning hospitality team
  • Build a culture of teamwork, open communication, and genuine hotel service excellence
  • Partner with the General Manager on staff scheduling, labor cost management, and cost-saving initiatives
  • Handle proprietary company information and employee matters with the highest level of confidentiality and discretion

GUEST EXPERIENCE & BRAND STANDARDS

  • Own the guest experience, ensuring every hotel guest receives efficient, courteous, professional guest service from check-in to check-out
  • Review Guest Satisfaction Survey (GSS) results and guest feedback metrics regularly to uncover improvement opportunities
  • Lead guest service recovery efforts personally, turning guest concerns into loyalty through fast, professional resolution
  • Ensure flawless execution of VIP programs, hotel amenities, and special guest requests
  • Uphold Marriott brand standards and A&R Hospitality's Culture, Mission, and Values in every guest and team interaction

FRONT DESK & FRONT OFFICE OPERATIONS

  • Build a Front Desk / Front Office team that anticipates guest needs, exceeds expectations, and is empowered to resolve guest issues on the spot
  • Oversee speed and accuracy across check-in, check-out, reservations, guest communications, and phone/switchboard operations
  • Provide direct, hands-on Front Desk support during peak periods or staffing gaps

REVENUE, SALES & FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE

  • Drive ADR and occupancy growth through strong hotel operations execution and standout guest service
  • Coordinate communication between Sales and Operations for group business and special events
  • Build working knowledge of financial statements, hotel budgets, and labor cost controls
  • Support expense management and cost-saving initiatives that protect hotel profitability (P&L)

SAFETY, COMPLIANCE & PROPERTY STANDARDS

  • Manage and lead the property's safety program, including training, incident reporting, and regulatory compliance
  • Ensure the hotel consistently meets Marriott brand standards, company policy, and all regulatory requirements
  • Support emergency preparedness planning and lead emergency response procedures
  • Conduct regular property inspections to maintain cleanliness, safety, and brand compliance

COMMUNICATION & CROSS-DEPARTMENT COORDINATION

  • Maintain strong communication across all hotel departments to keep operations aligned
  • Keep the General Manager updated on daily hotel operations, wins, and challenges
  • Coordinate interdepartmental efforts to meet hotel performance and guest service goals

ADMINISTRATIVE & REPORTING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date documentation across all hotel departments using Quore for task management and reporting
  • Support the General Manager with staff scheduling, labor cost tracking, and payroll-related documentation
  • Assist in preparing and reviewing financial statements, hotel budgets, and expense reports
  • Complete safety program documentation, incident reports, and compliance records accurately and on time
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and proprietary business records with strict discretion
  • Prepare Guest Satisfaction Survey (GSS) summaries and hotel performance reports for leadership review

QUALIFICATIONS FOR HOTEL ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management preferred
  • 2-3+ years of hotel supervisory or hotel management experience required (3-5+ years of hotel leadership experience with multi-department exposure preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead hotel teams, train staff, and hold employees accountable
  • Strong communication, guest services, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, high-pressure hotel environment
  • Experience with hotel budgeting, labor management, and financial reporting a plus
  • Familiarity with Quore or similar hotel property management systems (PMS) a plus
  • Prior experience as Manager on Duty, Front Office Manager, or hotel second-in-command a plus
  • Marriott brand experience a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Fast-paced, high-interaction hotel environment requiring frequent communication with guests, staff, and hotel leadership
  • Flexible schedule required, including mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays; on-call availability may be needed
  • Prolonged standing and walking throughout the hotel property; ability to lift up to 25 lbs
