Job description

This is a hands-on operational role at the center of a busy San Francisco hostel where no two days are the same and attention to detail really matters.

We cater to international travelers from around the world. Our property is a mix of mostly private rooms along with co-ed and female dorms, and we focus on providing a clean, welcoming, and well-run experience while staying accessible and budget-conscious.

We are looking for an Assistant to the General Manager who is highly organized, extremely detail-oriented, professional with guests, and capable of helping take day-to-day operational and administrative responsibilities off management's plate. This is not just a front desk role. We are looking for someone dependable, sharp, proactive, and comfortable handling real operational responsibility in a demanding hospitality environment.

The right candidate communicates professionally at all times, stays calm under pressure, solves problems independently, and understands how to balance guest experience with operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Support the General Manager with daily hostel operations and administrative tasks
  • Assist with staff communication, scheduling coordination, and accountability
  • Help oversee front desk operations and guest experience
  • Respond to guest concerns professionally and calmly
  • Ensure staff are following operational procedures and standards
  • Monitor reservations, occupancy, room readiness, and daily operational flow
  • Coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance teams
  • Help maintain organization, documentation, reports, and SOPs
  • Assist with onboarding and training staff as needed
  • Step in operationally during busy periods and help problem-solve in real time

Qualifications

  • Previous hospitality experience required
  • Hostel experience strongly preferred
  • Strong communication and guest service skills
  • Extremely detail-oriented and organized
  • Able to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable handling operational issues independently
  • Professional, dependable, and accountable
  • Experience with Mews PMS is strongly preferred
  • Comfortable working with international travelers and multicultural teams

Schedule Expectations

  • Full-time
  • Flexible availability required
  • Must be available weekends and holidays as needed
  • Schedule may include mornings, evenings, and occasional overnight operational support

What We're Looking For

This role is a good fit for someone who genuinely enjoys hospitality work, pays attention to the small details, and can help keep things running smoothly without needing constant direction. We value people who are reliable, communicate well, and take pride in doing things properly.

If you're organized, proactive, guest-focused, and comfortable working in a busy hostel environment, we'd love to hear from you.
