What is hospitality design?

Hospitality design is a specialized field of interior design and architecture focused on creating functional, aesthetically pleasing, and welcoming spaces for guests in places such as hotels, restaurants, resorts, and other hospitality venues. It involves considering the comfort, safety, and overall experience of guests, while also reflecting the brand identity of the business. Hospitality designers work on layouts, furnishings, lighting, color schemes, and materials to ensure that spaces are both beautiful and practical.

How does a hospitality designer typically collaborate with architects, engineers, and clients throughout a project?

Hospitality Designers work closely with architects and engineers to ensure their design concepts can be implemented safely and efficiently, balancing aesthetics with functionality and compliance. They regularly attend project meetings, review construction documents, and communicate design intent to all stakeholders. Collaboration with clients is also key, as designers must interpret brand values and guest experience goals into tangible design solutions, often requiring iterative presentations and feedback loops. This collaborative environment encourages problem-solving and ensures the final result aligns with both client expectations and technical requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in hospitality design, and why are they important?

To excel in Hospitality Design, a strong background in interior design or architecture, spatial planning, and knowledge of building codes is essential, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and industry certifications like NCIDQ are commonly required. Outstanding creativity, communication, and project management skills help professionals collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams. These skills ensure the creation of functional, aesthetically pleasing spaces that enhance guest experiences and meet business objectives.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Analyst, Hospitality Finance, will play a hands-on role in how we report, analyze, and improve the performance of our hotel portfolio. You'll work across both branded and independent properties, supporting the production of financial reporting packages for internal leadership and external lenders while contributing to our migration toward an AI-driven reporting and analytics platform.

You'll be close to the assets, close to the data, and develop a real understanding of what drives hospitality performance. As our analytics capabilities mature, this role will evolve from report production toward delivering actionable, platform-driven insights that Asset Managers use to improve property-level results.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual property-level financial reporting packages for a portfolio of hotel assets
  • Compile and validate data; ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to reporting standards
  • Maintain and update standardized reporting templates across the portfolio
  • Draft P&L variance analysis and commentary for review by senior team members
  • Support lender/debt compliance reporting packages, ensuring each meets specific formatting and deadline requirements

Analytics & Benchmarking

  • Gather and organize competitive benchmarking data, STR reports, and market intelligence
  • Assist with trend analysis across the portfolio to identify performance patterns, anomalies, and opportunities
  • Support ad hoc analytical requests from the asset management team

AI & Analytics Platform

  • Support the validation of financial data as the team migrates reporting to an in-house AI and analytics platform
  • Assist in reconciling platform outputs against existing reporting to ensure data integrity during transition
  • As the platform matures, contribute to developing analytical outputs that translate financial data into actionable insights for Asset Managers and property teams

Operations Supportย

  • Prepare data files and system uploads for property accounting platforms (e.g., Yardi)
  • Help develop and document scalable reporting processes as the portfolio grows
  • Assist in consolidating property manager budgets and producing owner budgets
  • Respond, in collaboration with other departments, to lender questions on asset performance
  • Submit CapEx draws to individual Lenders and forecast future reserve balances

This role also requires the following capabilities:ย

  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and ability to manage recurring deadlines across multiple properties simultaneously
  • Analytical mindset with a desire to understand drivers of performance
  • Proactive and resourceful-able to identify issues, ask questions, and seek solutionsย
  • Comfortable working with large datasets and financial systems
  • Interest in evolving from reporting execution to insight generation as tools and platforms mature
  • Collaborative team player with a professional, low-ego approach to working across functions

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Hospitality Management, or related field

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills; comfortable preparing financial commentary and materials reviewed by senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Interest in AI, data analytics, and emerging technology applications in finance

Preferredย
