Job description

SECURITY OFFICER JOB SUMMARY Provides a safe, secure environment in and around the Hospital. Provides for the protection of patients, visitors, staff, property, buildings and grounds in a pleasant, caring manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION Monitors CCTV, alarms, panels and various monitors; detect, announce and respond to emergencies. Controls access and exits. Answers phone quickly with courtesy. Continuous patrols of buildings and grounds concentrating on the patient units. Conducts drills and inspections.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS Educational Requirements High School Diploma/Equivalent preferred. Licensure, Certification and Registration Work Orientation and Experience Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Other Requirements Specific to Assigned Area Must have no criminal record. Prior experience in hospital security preferred. Experience in military, industrial security, law enforcement, emergency services, or corrections considered. Must be customer service oriented. Must possess good verbal and written communication skills. Must have basic computer skills. Must be physically and mentally able to assist with the control of violent and/or disruptive patients, visitors and staff. Must have full visual, audio, and vocal acuity. Must be able to work all shifts, Emergency Response.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS Supervision Received Reports to the Security Operations Supervisor. Supervision Exercised None.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS Directly interacts with all levels of hospital staff, patients, visitors, medical response personnel and law enforcement. TOOLS/EQUIPMENT USED Two-way, multi-channel radio. Computer. CCTV. Detex System. Golf type cart. Multi-function telephone. Over-head page system. Fire alarm panel and fire extinguisher

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT/WORKING CONDITIONS Must be able to handle heavy work involving standing, walking, climbing stairs for long periods of time. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather for long periods of time. Must occasionally use physical force in performance of required duties. Must be able to work in all areas of the hospital including patient care areas. Potential for regular exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials requiring the observance of standard precautions and safe handling practices.
