Job description

Registered Nurse Position

Join the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a Registered Nurse and make a meaningful impact on the lives of patients who rely on your care at the Wernersville State Hospital. This role offers the chance to apply your clinical skills in a supportive environment that values teamwork and compassion. You will help strengthen patient well-being while growing your own professional experience in a dynamic setting.

This role focuses on providing professional nursing care and treatment services while supporting patient needs in a clinical setting. As a Registered Nurse, you will perform the following duties:

  • Patient Assessment: Assess patient physical, psychosocial, and mental health status
  • Care Planning: Develop and implement individualized treatment plans using nursing diagnosis and treatment methods
  • Clinical Coordination: Coordinate and delegate nursing care while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams
  • Medication Oversight: Administer and track medications and evaluate responses to treatment
  • Staff Support: Provide education, guidance, and on the job training to non professional nursing personnel
  • Communication Practices: Use therapeutic communication and maintain daily clinical documentation

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours during training: 1st shift, 7:00am - 3:30pm
  • Work Hours: 3rd shift (11:10 PM - 7:10 PM) - Sunday through Saturday
  • Two paid 15 minute breaks
  • Beginning September 12, 2026, work hours will be 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM with a 30 minute lunch break
  • 4-week pattern - work every other weekend and holidays as assigned
  • Overtime: As needed. Subject to emergency call in.
  • May change based on operational needs.

  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $93,888.00 (before taxes).
  • New hires may be eligible for a $1,000.00 Retention Incentive Payment, provided you meet all criteria outlined in the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility:

Qualifications Necessary Special Requirements:

  • This position requires active authorization to practice as a Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • All employees possessing an active temporary practice permit must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one (1) year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • If you are within 60 days of graduating from a school of nursing approved by the State Board of Nursing, you are eligible to apply for this job posting. At the time of appointment to a position, you must show proof of possession of a current, valid PA temporary practice permit or PA Registered Nurse license.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require satisfactory completion of a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
