Job description
Education - Completion of a formal radiological program from an accredited college or hospital-based program. (Refer to Licenses & Certifications below for certification criteria).
Experience - Prefer two (2) years relevant experience as a Radiologic Technologist with at least one (1) year experience in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging department.
Licenses & Certification - Current registration with the ARRT as a Magnetic Resonance Technologist or registry eligible status is required. If registry eligible, registry must be obtained for first registry within one(1) year of hire and two (2) years of hire for second registry. CPR certification is required, and completion of an accredited IV therapy program is preferred.
Knowledge & Skills -
- Knowledge of Physics of Magnetic Resonance.
- Ability to perform basic and advanced MRI functions independently and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to provide accurate diagnostic images and related functions using MRI scanning techniques and equipment.
- Skill and knowledge required to identify disease abnormalities and physiological process while performing MRI scans.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques and quality control required to accurately produce diagnostic images with optimum results.
- Skill in obtaining adequate diagnostic quality MRI scans on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring techniques, which deviate from the normal.
- Ability to perform MRI examinations in a variety of conditions such as emergency trauma.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively to patients, other staff and the general public both orally and in writing.
Education - Incumbents must have successfully completed a formal radiology program given by an accredited college or hospital-based program.
Experience - Two years (2) of relevant work experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist preferred. One (1) year in a Computed Tomography (CT) department preferred
One (1) year a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) department preferred.
Licenses & Certification - Registered as a Radiologic Technologist with The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. ARRT Certification in Computed Tomography (CT) with ARRT or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year of date of hire. ARRT Certification in Magnetic Resonance (MRI) with ARRT or be able to obtain certification within one (1) year of date of hire. Must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
Knowledge & Skills -
- Knowledge of the physics of Radiology, such as kilo voltage, milliamps and time.
- Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of methods, techniques, and quality control required for processing CT images with optimum results.
- Skills in obtaining adequate CT images on patients for which normal techniques and methods are not possible, requiring techniques, which deviate from the normal.
- Ability to perform CT examinations in a variety of conditions, such as emergency trauma and have the ability to manage patient care in trauma situations.

The primary purpose of the position is to perform all required Magnetic Resonance Imaging and CT scanning procedures in accordance with established Radiological protocols.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a hospital/outpatient health clinic environment. There is common exposure to infectious communicable disease, potentially hazardous chemicals, and biohazardous materials. Incumbent must be aware of all risks involved and be willing to take precautions as required and requested. Special attire may be required as protection against infection and radiation.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Work requires long periods of standing and walking. Working with patients requires recurring bending, lifting, stretching and positioning patients. Ability to lift in excess of 50 pounds is required to perform positional duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Satisfactory job performance will be determined by successful execution of the following:
- Perform all required diagnostic MRI or CT scanning procedures.
- Position patients so desired anatomy will be demonstrated.
- Educate and prepare patients for examinations.
- Perform any necessary clerical work related to the obtaining of previous reports, X-Ray films, etc.
- Recognize and initiate treatment of allergic reactions and notify physician.
- Maintain MRI and CT scanning equipment is in good operating order.
- Check and maintain emergency equipment within the scanning suite.
- Responsible for the cleanliness of work area and equipment assigned.
- Keep abreast of current technical literature and evaluates new procedures and techniques for the purpose of recommending them to the Radiology Supervisor.
- Provide CD of MRI or CT images for distribution to the patient's physicians and other hospitals.
- Maintain quality control of MRI or CT equipment to ensure that both the computer and radiographic equipment are operating properly.
- Responsible for maintaining Continuing Education (CE's) and certifications as required.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Performs other duties as required by Radiology Supervisor.
- Reports directly to the MRI/CT Supervisor.
